Stuck in Hollywood

I have reached Hollywood and I'm a bit confused how to proceede. I have spoken to Ma Brown and Sheriff Lam. I don't have high enough kiss ass level to persuade him, so I have avoid the question for now. I've spken with Heidi and Veronica and have to quests from them. How do I prove the slavery? How do I find out if Veronica is in love?

Veronica in love is a later quest arc before she will ask for help you have to prove slavery. Go to Schwags talk to Flo, meet her in the cemetry, ask her about Duke and Swifty, talk to Swifty in Schwags, then run basically opposite schwags to the sewer entrance by the casting couch. Enter the sewer mess with the cages combat then you need a specific chest which has circumstantial evidence against duke. Then confront duke via intercom, kill him, open his safe, take the hard evidence to veronica, then to heidi, then back to veronica, then start the love arc.

Thanks for the clarification but for some reason now I can't finish the Ma Brown quest, e.g. the woman and her chili bussiness. I started the conversation with Lam but didn't end it because I didn't have high enough Smart Ass skill and the other option is to threaten him and then the whole town goes after me. But when I went back to talk to him again after having high enough skill, the option was gone? Could this be a bug? Is there a way to end this quest without killing everyone?

You could probably edit your save file with your preferred xml editing software or the ranger editor and change 1 of your junk items to the signed document. However that would require you to know the name the game has for that specific item in the its code. I would tell you what it is but i passed that part long ago.

Oh hell it looks like I've fallen into one of these famous Hollywood bugs and may have to replay quite a lot, almost all of the area.

When I found the slaves, killed Swifty, freed the slaves and found the circumstantial evidence against Schwag I took it to Veronica as requested who then started the Broken Man quest. There was no mention of taking it to Schwag. Now if i click on the panel by Schwag's offoce door his goons just say "get lost", no dialog. I think the evidence document is no longer in my possesion.

I take it I've screwed up? Is there any way out without replaying the area?

You can hack the door with Computer Science. Schwag won't be too appreciative, however.
