Wasteland 2

Dear InXile, Story Mode?
Dear InXile,
I’m a big fan of isometric RPG‘s. I’ve played Fallouts, BG’s, Torments, Pillars, Shadowruns, etc.. I played Wasteland 2 on my PS4 and thought it was WAY too hard. Could not get past the first fight. I always enjoy the RPG elements of these games, but I am not interested in combat whatsoever. Games like the original fallout’s and torment’s would usually give you the option to solve problems without fighting. It does not seem like pacifism is an option in wasteland 2. Seems the majority of people who play this game enjoy the difficult combat, so I assume this is a moot point for most.

I also have a question for the developers:

Story Mode? Wasteland 3?

I’m a big fan of Inexile, Brian Fargo and their legacy. I bought several copies of their new Torment Game (for friends and family) and I would like to support the wasteland series. (I hate myself for saying this but...) If only it was more accessible. Unfortunately accessibility is the reason why most games nowadays are dumbed down and not nearly as rich and rewarding as the games of old. Still, I find myself needing some floaties and a noodle like a toddler in the deep end...

I understand that this game is far too late in its life to add anything to it. I assume you are all far too busy preparing the third game for a release to do anything. Concurrently it’s most likely far too late in production. I can only hope that Story Mode was a planned inclusion to the 3rd game, or that, the desires of an insignificant individual on Steam (though there be many) are heeded.

So if you are ever kicking around ideas in your luxury office High in the Sierra Mountains drinking (-What’s he drinking? -Champagne.) Champagne? Champagne cocktails...

Think on me

Currently, our offices are our own personal abodes (where, in my case, I am drinking some IPA sampler beers)... at any rate, I can appreciate the sentiment of course as a heap of hard work has gone into crafting the amazing story that you'll be able to help navigate. As for avoiding combat, it's not something that you will directly be able to opt out of, however, you will be able to more expediently move through the combat scenarios should you elect to tone down the difficulty.

All the same, thanks for interacting with us and the Steam forums on behalf of Wasteland. We're continuing to keep watch on all the incoming thoughts, feedback, and suggestions that come our way.
First off I’d like to thank you for responding. I’m sure with the new game coming out, and everyone working from home, you are all quite busy. I truly appreciate you taking the time to reach out to me.

As with every game I play I always go for the easiest difficulty. I am not looking for a challenge, I am looking to be entertained.

I’m afraid that even when I put wasteland 2 down to it’s easiest difficulty, it’s still far too hard. Each combat encounter takes a lifetime to get through, and on top of that there is combat constantly.

Hence the reason for my post. Believe me, I would not have posted anything had the lowest difficulty been playable. Unfortunately for me, I’m unable to get past the first few fights without getting frustrated and impatient with the whole process.

I understand the community for these games is a competitive one. It seems like most people who play this genre in general are looking for a challenge. However I don’t believe this should preclude a story mode difficulty. I don’t play on hard and complain the game is too hard. Just like these jokers should not complain the game is too easy when they are playing on easy.

I understand for most people this request seems counterintuitive. Yet, I beg you to not completely dismiss this idea. A move like this can only broaden your Fanbase and make the game more accessible to those who are interested in a story but not necessarily turn-based grid-combat.

If you look on Steam there is a very devout Fanbase for story driven games. Your game has many of these rich story characteristics. It seems a shame to Exclude yourselves from an audience when you have already done all the work said audience would appreciate.

What I’m saying is if you sold caramel apples with nuts, but some people wanted caramel apples without nuts, why would you deny them!? You already have the product right there. You already have everything you need. Just don’t put on the nuts!

This is obviously an oversimplification when compared to the video game production process. I understand there are bugs testing and a number of other things. Believe me I understand it’s not as easy as simply not adding nuts. Yet the concept remains the same.

You guys already have all the ingredients to make some great caramel apples. Don’t limit your product’s potential!
