Seals effect not clear (conversion/deviation)
I guess I'm approaching the end game. I've got those two similar seals:

- Conversion: upgrades the main seal's sync rate energy level from I to II.
- Deviation: upgrades the main seal's sync rate energy level from II to III.

I'm not sure I understand what they do. Do they "simulate" an upgrade for the main seal? My main seal (investigator) is already upgraded to level 4: do I benefit anything if I equip those two seals? Also, do I need to equip them both, or just the superior one? Do they stack?

If I equip the first one, the "medium" segment of my sync bar changes color to a slightly darker blue. But if I equip the second one (alone or combined with the first) I don't see any change.

There's different levels within the sync bar indicated by the colors throughout your sync bar. Note, these color levels have nothing to do with your seal's level when you enhance it using materials.
LV0 - Gray / LV1 - light blue / LV2 - dark blue / LV3 - Purple / LV4 - Red.
Higher the LV = more damage while your current sync rate is on that color. So you want to keep your sync rate high to maximize damage when possible.

Every main seal has a different layout of colors on the sync bar. For example, Seal of Pilgrim has Lv0, Lv1, Lv2, and lv3 colors but no lv4.

You can get lv4 by equipping the seal that upgrade lv3 to lv4 thus the purple color will change to the red color.

If the main seal you are using doesn't have lv2 for example and you use the deviation seal, it will do nothing since there is no lv2 to upgrade.

Also, if you upgraded lv1 to lv2 already using the conversion seal, then you can't upgrade it again using the deviation seal, so it will do nothing.

Yeah, what Domii said. Seal of Investigator only has level 0, 1, and 3. Can upgrade the 1 to 2 and the 3 to 4.

This is something I had to discover on my own.
It's almost like, under the hood, the "internal" value is still 1 but displays as an upgrade. Kinda wish this was more clear because I can see how this would confuse people.

Aaaah, it makes sense. Thanks a lot for the explanation!

Wait, are you saying that you actually are able to upgrade an energy level multiple times through the seals but the color just won't update on the sync bar?

Ah, no, I'm saying you're correct.
Upgrading 1 -> 2 works just fine. But you can't upgrade a 1+1 to 3, because it seems the "internal" value is still 1 so it doesn't register. It's not a bug, it just doesn't work.

Ah figured that when I tried (using investigator seal)
Thanks, Char.

So if I understand it right, it's as if each segment is identified by its base level (e.g. I), and the seals only target the segments based on that base level, even if a segment has been upgraded by another seal, and thus *appears* to be a level higher.

So basically each segment can only be upgraded once.
yes, only the base level can be improved

if it wasn't like this you'd be able to turn all the colors red lv4 except level 0 lol
