What weapon to upgrade?
I have been saving materials and just beat the Cleansing Knight, is his weapon worth crafting or should I stick to the starting great sword?

Haven't really decided on a build but so far I have been using dagger/great sword and it works fine.

Also how hard is it to get the enhancement material for the weapons? I havent really spent them because I haven't committed to a weapon yet.

It is good not to use them recklessly and I, like you, probably dont use them enough lol Im not superfar in the game, on the surface past the cemetery idk what cleansing knight is but thus far I have acquire probably around 30 luminous carbon and upgraded the halberd twice. Also found one of the next tier. I think you shouldn't worry too much about it if you have agood weapon you like, at least a couple levels. I can't comment on how upgrade mats look in late game but maybe someone else here can give insigh:)

as for the weapon, just one you like and works well for you :)

If you can find the market canvas. You can buy the weapon upgrade materials. So honestly. Level up what you like.
like most souls games yes some weapons will be better then others but that alos depends on your play style and build. its good to save upgrade materials but later if you do the merchant quest you will be able to buy all of them except the last one (there is only 5 in a playthrough). at that point you can upgrade to your hearts content as getting crystals is easy and goods to sell drop very often from those same enemies.
You can buy upgrade materials from a merchant later provided you've found the trade routes key item to give him throughout the game. IIRC there's 3 or 4 of them to hand in.

If you want a good great sword, pick up the Corrupted Greatsword from the Cemetary before the Panic Reaper boss. You need the Cemetary key from the merchant at the temp camp to be able to access it and it drops from a corrupted Blader. Used it through the entire game. Skill has hyper armor, high poise damage, applies Piercing (bleed), and has a reasonable cost.
Very much all the weapons work fine. The game isn't really difficult.
Also all materials except for the last one (T9 to T10) will eventually become infinitely available.
I think the lore boss lance is better than that lance. The weapon I maxed out was the holy embracer though. I love those claws.
I personally like the scythe from the building area boss (3rd area). It hit hard and the weapon skill is cool. Although you can't really use it with elemental enchant because the special attack give a short electric charge to the weapon that cancel the previously applied one
I am investing in regular Greatsword the most, because it has higher dmg. But also I am using Corrupted Greatsword too. Start with corrupted weapon skill and than switch to regular. Depends also on mobs.
I've been upgrading the starter dual swords to use on normal enemies, and the corrupted greatsword as that thing destroys bosses. It does mean my stats are split, but it works out well enough.

I'd say just pick two weapons you like and go for it.
I would just upgrade everything luminous carbon is easy to farm and can also be purchased once you find a scroll on the subway area so you can level everything to level 4 easily the luminous diamonds are pretty easy to farm in the church areas almost all enemies drop them so you can level up to level 6 pretty easily. And there is a scroll you find to be able to purchase those too.

As for the weapon no his lance is cheeks and not worth it at all there are significantly better weapons the corrupted weapons are the best in the game so far imo pierce obliterates bosses so anything corrupted will carry you until you can purchase the reapers from the nucleus merchant I havent taken them off since they are ridiculous

I love the "game is not difficult" people as I die to hunter of bladers for the 27th time ..... Lol that chic is harder the Melania for me
Can also vouch for the Reapers. They look cool, and murder very effectively.

My personal favourite was the Envenomed Blade. Getting an enemy or boss poisoned relatively early can really shorten a fight in the long run, and the weapon itself felt good to use. That being said, it's kind of trash against Necros.

If you're good at timing, you can parry pretty much all of her attacks on the first or second strike. I'm not very good at timing, so I struggled too.
Holy Embracers carried me late game loved those. I used those and mercy and switched between depending on the enemy. NG I'm going to use Dawnfrost and Wiltforge. You can max out like 5 weapons each play through I think. And get everything up to level 9 if you so desire.

The weapon ability is great for breaking kneecaps.
