Thank you Bennet Foddy
I got this game because I thought to myself 'This game looks easy, I don't see why people are getting so angry.' Well, I was half right, the game isn't easy at all, the controls are horrible, the drops are unforgiving, some cliffs are too sheer, too slippery and Orange Hell has been a challenge I took months to overcome.

But I was right about one thing, this game did not make me angry. Many games make me angry, mostly the ones that make me waste my time, when I try to get something but there's a major setback because of either a glitch, my own fault, etc. But in Getting Over It, I didn't feel like falling down was a setback, I felt like falling down was an opportunity, it didn't feel like failure.

I might be the wrong person, this game seems to be targeting someone who sees failure as unforgiving and as bitter as the peel of an orange. I find failure to be more zesty, sure you wouldn't bite into a lemon, but you do put it in your water to make lemonade. I see failure as a flavor enhancer of games and Getting Over It has made me feel like an absolute monk who's mastered the art of falling and trying again without losing my cool or feeling like I've wasted time.

I just reached the bucket and pondered taking the snake down, so I did, I put my hammer on the snake and rode it down to the start. I cannot wait to climb back over again with newfound experience and skill and this time who knows, maybe I will take the snake down again, or maybe I might try and go for the win this time.

I do need to say one thing that might upset Bennett. The obstacles in this game aren't any more fake than those in Doom, Halo or Sonic. 'The right gear, the right technique or spending enough time.' The latter two apply to Getting Over It, by learning the right technique and spending enough time you too can bypass any obstacle. I have a feeling I missed something or just didn't interpret Bennett's words correctly.

I wish I could spend a day in a discord call with him, talking about the philosophy of games, talking about the purpose of obstacles, the purpose of challenge in life. It is definitely on my bucket list and I hope I don't die before I have the change to dialogue with him.

Thank you Bennett,
-John Andrew

Well, it takes a few months/years to beat it for the first time. What I don't like is how there are 3 achievements:

  1. Climb the mountain once.
  2. Climb the mountain twice.
  3. Climb the mountain fifty times.
