i genuinely thought that too on my first play through. The trick is to get half way through then swing until you hit the area at the end

My favorite trick for getting up the Chimney is this: when you grab one of the lamps and prep to launch upwards, don't do a full swing. Do a fairly short pull instead; pull straight down, inward towards your body, and keep the head of the hammer above horizontal. That way it will fit in the Chimney much more easily, and you'll be less likely to get stuck.

As you get a grip on the red steel and balance yourself in the air, the best way to pull yourself forward is by moving the mouse slowly towards Diogenes parallel to the beam. Hope this helps

On the rock on the left, do a hammer launch (by thrusting the hammer into the ground) to the right, then get a grip on the red steel beam.

I find it easiest way to pogo up chimney is off the rock that juts up a little higher than the rest of it as it's the easiest angle imo. If you can get a hammer grip on the first light post you can do a little yoink move that becomes really useful later on in the game to pull yourself up to the next one.. That's the most efficient way, to just yoink the light post, grab the next one and yoink right up to right rock. Alternatively new players sometimes have better luck with the swing back and forth strategy. Basically if you hold you hammer straight up and quickly swing back and forth against the walls in chimney it will create momentum that pulls you up. You also don't even need to pogo to do it so it's pretty easy. Just get on the rock, and start swinging back and forth. I If you can get on top of the second light post with your cauldron you're in the home stretch as it becomes pretty easy to carefully put yourself ontop the rock to the left to jump to the right easier.

Chimney is one of the hardest obstacles in the game and is an annoying barrier to the rest of the mountain. I spent easily 2 hours on chimney my first time on the game, and its super frustrating. The red beam isnt that bad, you just have to get a grip on it with the TOP of the hammer, so that you have more surface contact with the beam to prevent your hammer from slipping, then hoist yourself up. You can try and get ontop of the rock to the left of the beam if you want, or try and pogo up to it and position yourself on top.

For the tunnel, you can try to get on top of the rock or near it. For me, trying to get ontop of the rock is an annoying and colossal waste of time as it gets super frustrating how often the setup for it screws up. If you increase sensitivity near the rock you can ignore it, pogo up into the tunnel, then hook your way onto the first light, all from the same level of rock that the red beam is at and the small rock sits on(so you dont need to sit on small rock).

When in the tunnel, make sure you arent getting your hammer stuck and whatnot. If your hammer gets shoved between you and the wall, and you momentarily cant move it out, you will probably slip and miss the lights and have to pogo again. To prevent this, recognize the situation you are in if you get stuck in the tunnel and try to preemptively catch yourself on the lower light rather than keep climbing.

I tend to just get my guy on the rock beside and launch him there then put the hammer behing me and push him the rest of the way

The red beam is too slippery because you are going too fast. Take your time and go slowly. The hammer has better friction on metal when it is moving slowly.
