General question FAQ
Here are some other frequently asked questions, and the answers to them:

1. Will you bring the game to Linux?

This is on my list of things to do, but it might be a while. Windows users are 97% of my customers, and Mac is 3%, which means Linux will be about 0.5% or less. I want to serve you, but I also have to prioritize the 99.5% of the users.

2. Can you put in Steam Workshop or a level editor?

This is a really nice idea lots of people have asked about, and I'm glad you enjoy the game enough to want more of it. It would be easy to do this if I had written my own editor to make the game, but I just used Unity's built-in editor... so this would be a pretty major undertaking. I will think about making a sequel that is built from the ground up with this in mind.

3. What about multiplayer?

This isn't on my roadmap, but if you want a game in this style that works with multiplayer, I recommend Daniel Steger's 'Mount Your Friends' ($5 on steam) or Super Pole Riders, a game I made for Sportsfriends, which was part of the inspiration for Getting Over It.

4. I got this game on Humble Monthly - can I have a steam key?

If you were subscribed in time for the October monthly, when this game launched, you should have a Steam key in your Humble account now.

5. Can you add support for gamepads?

There already is support for gamepad control in the game, but it's undocumented because I don't love it. Just plug in a gamepad and start playing with it. You need to use both analog sticks. I can get up about as far as the orange table with this input method, but I've confirmed every area in the game is completable. But it doesn't feel as good as a mouse or trackpad, in my view.

6. I don't like the mouse acceleration!

If you put it in trackpad mode (from the setting menu) there will be no acceleration curve applied. In my testing, everyone who was using a mouse complained of hand cramp if there was no curve (because it's hard to move a mouse a very small amount) but if you want, you can play it that way.

I think some of the people who complain of mouse acceleration are really reacting to the fact that the cursor automatically returns to the hammer head when you aren't moving it fast. This is an essential design decision that allows you to do things like stand on the hammer or safely perch on a ledge with the hammer, but it can feel a bit like mouse acceleration. If I turned it off, it would be more or less impossible to get up the mountain.

springtoiffel: I haven't talked to them about it yet, but I love gog, so it's possible!

How many times have you ragequitted Bennett?

And also why is he in a cauldron? As sexy hiking doesn't have that it seems weird, cool design though :D

Scrub Lord: He's in a cauldron to protect his leg, and lots of times
Mirrored Alaska: probably something is weird with your internet. Are you behind some kind of firewall or something like that?

Wouldn't it be weird if you had Linux customers when the game isn't available for Linux yet? Or are you talking about some previous game you have made?

I'm not criticizing your decision to release the smallest platform last, I just don't understand the conclusion about the size of the share. Other indie devs often report 1-2% Linux sales

Trusty: yeah I considered making it harder to edit your save, but as I've discovered in the past this makes things very hard for TAS runners and researchers and then I have all these people asking me to expose the data. In the end I decided to let it be visible - these days, the real global leaderboard is youtube.

Are you able to play this game on a dx9/10 card? My card doesn't support dx11 but graphically it should be able to handle this game.

What is your opinion on the beautiful multiplayer mod for the game? https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1588287

Really technically impressive! This kind of thing is why I didn't encrypt the code of the game.

I am definitely looking forward to Get Over It, and pretty sure I'd want Getting Over It, but I don't care much for Bennet Foddy. Can I please get over it without that guy anyhow?

Can you let us decide that? This is a game about precise mouse movement and my mouse moves on its own. Please add an option to turn off this "required" feature.

Bennet, did you anticipate how much this game was going to take off? And have you considered a sequel/another mountain?A level editor linked to the steam workshop would also be amazing, with building a-la mario maker, wher you move objects around and rotate them, and you could alter the friction coefficients of objects
