i have the same problem. i noticed that if i quit and hit 'continue', it will resume where i left off, but if i quit and continue a second time WITHOUT moving the character, my progress will reset. this doesn't happen if you move the character a bit. i notice that sometimes just moving the hammer is not enough, you have to move the pot a bit for it to not reset. i tested this for like 15min over and over. maybe its a bug but if u quit 2 consecutive times without moving the character, i will lose all progress. im on version 1.54 on pc steam.

Foddy halp plz??

Hi, I encounter the same problem twice that closing the game and re-starting it cost me the whole progress and I have to start from the very beginning. It's really annoying while seeing progress not saved and your character sitting right on the ground. Can you please fix that? Thx.

Having the same problem myself. Sometimes when I hit "continue", it sends me back to the very beginning. I think b2c has the right idea, because I've noticed the same pattern. Please help with this if you can.

It has two saves, and it saves to them alternatingly every second. If you think it's not saving at all you can check in Regedit under HKCU/Software/BennettFoddy/GettingOverIt. There should be two keys in there for your saves. If there is nothing in there, it suggests the game isn't allowed to write to the registry, which could be down to your antivirus.

Hi there, ok I have a bit of a dilemma. After 20 hours or gruelling not so sexy hiking I finally got to the bucket, I was such a nervous wreck that I decided to park things to resume this morning. Upon loading the game I was right back at the beginning. I have not had saved game problems before so I wondered if your investigation got anywhere on this subject and if there was a new or known bug.

I have not finished this game yet when I reached the bucket (and the snake) it was a great moment, this morning however was not.

For me at least the error is very easily recreated,

1) Load game and continue, move guy then quit.
2) Continue, do not move the guy, quit.
3) Continue and its right back at the beginning.

There is an additional point to this bug. if you then load the game again the mouse is completely unresponsive in the game. this can be rectified with a reboot.

I have tested this further today, as long as I do a certain amount in game before I quit it saves fine and there are no issues. I suppose its quite simple to avoid however it seemed slightly different to the problems other people were reporting.

There is a persistent but rare bug where a small number of users suffer occasional save loss. Unfortunately because it is quite rare and doesn't leave any evidence in the logs, it is very hard for me to solve it.

If the mouse doesn't work on load it means the function to load a save didn't complete. So the two are intertwined.

If it happens to you again, I'd appreciate it if you could alt-f4 the game and immediately look in the logs (in Users\Yourname\AppData\LocalLow\Bennett Foddy\Getting Over It\output_log.txt) - see if there's anything there about a failed save. So far on affected computers there has been no sign of trouble. If I can just get a clue about what's going wrong I can probably fix it, but for now I'm stumped.

Hi Bennett, I recreated the problem again (its quite simple I can screen share if you like) however there is no txt file you describe.

Mine is stored in Steam under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Getting Over It

These are the files in that folder.

Feel free to add me to have a look.
