When people make games that are close in mechanics to QWOP, which happens a lot, I feel honored rather than disrespected. But I respect that not everyone may feel the same.
I think 'homage' is the perfect description. The method of movement followed by the dead tree was the homage (narration references aside), from there on, this game stands apart.
When someone likes what you do, they'll sometimes be inspired to do something similar.
Even if it's because they want to pursue the money your idea got you, it's still imitation, and that, no matter what the motive behind it, can still always be flattering.
let's be honest: how many people have heard of "Sexy Hiking" before this game?
and i guess many people download Sexy Hiking now, I too have downloaded it.
The physics are much better, the mountain is well designed, and credit is given to Jazzuo within 10 minutes of the start.
I agree, maybe not every game but some as someone would call "copies" of the original games of the old days can be called "paying respect" to the old devs, because nowadays a lot of games that come out are either classical platformer, action or FPS and they rarely have something very interesting about them.
Moreover, it feels good when you see something so well made and besides, the credit was explicitly given to the original designer of the Sexy hiking, explaining or rather guessing the design behind it, because as it is stated above, the original dev is not available to reach out.
When you take a really old design and make it better, i would say that it's called "refinement"
He should put Sexy Hiking on Steam for like $1. ;-P
