what you were experiencing is not how the game is supposed to be played, the darkness is supposed to be that dark.
please do not use the nvidia reflex stuff as it gives you an unfair advantage.
I would recommend this to the devs to fix it to make things look similar on different machines with different settings. Counter strike (CSS and GO) and many other FPS have solutions for different settings to not offer advantages
