has anyone with service related PTSD tried this game out? Does it cause problems?
I did 4 years, 3 tours, medically discharged after getting hit with a road mine, and it's left me pretty messed up. I've played a lot of FPS and mil sim like ARMA 3, ground branch, ready or not and I was disconnected enough from those games to not really feel anything, like it was 100% obvious that this is just a game but a buddy of mine who was in my unit played this and said that he had to go take a break because it started getting to him after a while, he was genuinely upset. IDK if this just an issue he's having because the graphics and camera movements of stuff like this and unrecord carry so much more realism but I wanna know if this is a common occurrence before I try it out.
And before the usual trolls jump in, I am asking this from a genuine place of being interested in this game but, I have to be careful at times. VR FPS games did a number on me a couple of times when they started tipping too far into realism. Please have some tact.

Firstly, thank you for your service. I would say that the gun effects, from the realistic lighting with muzzle flash, to the incredibly accurate sound effects along with the rag-dolls and their sound effects are 100% enough to trigger someone. A lot of people also will commonly say this game is like playing VR, so if VR FPS games have triggered you a bit before I would tread lightly. If you want to jump in I would maybe turn down the gun FX sounds so it isn't as shockingly loud as usual.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda wish there was a demo I could try, but I suppose I could always refund if I start having issues in the first couple of hours.

There are different tolerances and triggers for everyone so it's tough to say. However for me the game wasn't immersive personally. There are too many unrealistic issues like lack of physics and bullet penetration and weapon handling and other factors that the graphics and lighting weren't able to overcome. But I can see how others find it triggering I suppose. Games like 6 days in fallujah and some other UE5 games are way more realistic for me. I had buddies serving during those actual fallujah missions that say the details down to the visibility, terrain, and ridiculously difficult missions are spot on the most accurate of modern mil Sims.

However you can try and return the game within two hours but I think you will be fine as it's not a realistic shooter in all honesty. I hope it gets to that point but it needs a lot of ballistic and mechanical work. The sound is on point though.

Seconded, thank you for your sacrifice. While the origin of my PTSD is different there are things that you can control and things you cannot, and the immersion is just one piece of what might trigger someone with trauma history. You can decrease the gun sounds enough, but the ragdoll physics may give you trouble. It is immersive enough, and disregard the experience of others as YOUR experience is YOUR own, but it is immersive enough that if seeing a body flail or gasp for air after you shoot it would trigger you then definitely approach with caution. You are able to control the graphics and sounds such that it may be LESS immersive, but there are still images that may cause you some discomfort. Like you shoot through plywood and hit your target and then see their legs kicking briefly through the doorway kind of thing or they roll around then stop. I imagine depending on the depth and nature of your trauma it could be unsettling, but again, you seem to have a fairly calculated approach and I think the game itself is a remarkable piece of work. Don't hesitate to reach out.

I've had no issue with the game and neither has my dad. Everyone is different however. Best thing I can recommend is try watching gameplay without commentary on youtube.
