EDIT: After more digging, I see where a few people have said that you can indeed host your own private matches with friends. If that's true, then I'll consider purchasing for sure once I see what the reviews are like soon.
p2p only is insane wtf.. not sure if I want this game anymore
But it just had a browser with an option to join or host.
For a very short time when the play-test began, you could set your preferences for map and game mode (DM/TDM/BomB) and then hit quick-play. But they patched the play-test and removed the quick play options. But it was still P2P and the host could drop at any time.
