Bank of Shields is very broken
(Edited since I misunderstood just how broken the mechanic was, thanks to @TheWildCard for correcting me)

The Bank of Shields free chest seems to be giving ~3x the shields you earned from monster kills AND from shields you collected from the Bank of Shields free chest in your previous guild run.

The (improved) shield chest snowball strategy:

  1. Do a resource run in a Hunters II guild (You can go for a long time or a short run, doesn't matter much)
  2. Reset
  3. Join a guild
  4. Go to the Bank of Shields and purchase the free chest and leave the guild (if you joined a Hunters guild, your guild multiplier will be boosted by opening the chest)

Repeat steps 3 & 4.

You can spend as many shields as you want throughout the process without reducing the number of shields you will get after reset.

So that's it, seemingly endless geometric growth of shields AND Hunters guild multiplier boosts. This seems VERY broken.

Update:

Oh look, it's even more broken than we thought, again! BileFire discovered you can claim the Bank of Shields free chest and use those shields to make progress on Hunters guild quests. The process is a little weird though:

1. Join a Hunters guild at max rank
2. Get as many shields as you can
3. Get to the required level to start the guild quest and start it as normal
4. Claim the Bank of Shields free chest
5. Click "Manage save files" in settings -> Saves
6. Click "Choose from auto-saves"
7. Load the latest guild reset save (it should have a message on the right hand side of the screenshot, they are kind of hard to make out)

When the save is loaded, you should be in the guild you started the quest on with the shields you had after step 4, and a large guild multiplier to match.

This is probably more about the "Choose from auto-saves" interface having a bug, though. Some value/values is/are clearly not being wiped before the save is loaded via that interface. This could manifest in lots of ways.

I think you're misunderstanding the mechanic here.

Bank of shields works on the number of shields earned during the previous run, not how many you have left at the end.

Tavern shields are based on the total number of shields earned in the current run. However, shields bought from the tavern do not count towards the number of shields earned, so do not have any impact on future tavern shields or bank of shields earnings.

I think there are 2 bugs playing off each other here. The first bug seems to be that the bank of shields chests are counting as "earned" shields, unlike the tavern shields. The second bug seems to be increasing the multiplier on the bank of shields over 100% of the last runs number of shields. Maybe either of these on their own would not be an issue, but both allow for the exponential growth.

The most click efficient shield growth is:

1. Claim bank of shields free chest
2. Join and instantly leave the guild
3. Repeat

I'm getting a x3 multiplier to the number of shields received for each reset. You can join the hunter's guild first, then claim the bank of shields chest to increase the guild multiplier when you get tired of grinding, since bank of shields also counts for hunters guild xp. Due to the short cycles, it probably pairs best with mages guild runs.

Ah yeah, you're right. I must have misread how many shields I got when I was first testing this.

Yeah that's way more broken than I thought, lol. I'll update the op.

fair warning, if you do this with hunters guild, you can boost its bonus if you join the guild first before you claim the crate

If the dev was going to give us a broken ass loot chest, they should have made it for skulls, so we could get them caught up to the others, and then forget about it since they aren't that great.

I used an autoclicker and now the amount of shields I got has allowed me to get a lot of gold and red cards. Hooray for bugs :D

now its not even that anymore, its like having a fake pokemon card, where the real one is worth 20cents

Forever is a long time. Most likely this would only be a short-term gain, since you will still be limited by berries and gold.

No, because because people who have legitimately exploited broken mechanics aren't very far ahead of me. Plus I can use my eyeballs to see even if you had e1000 shields it wouldn't get you very far, since you can't upgrade anything past e380 Shields or so due to Berry and Gold requirements.

First, it's not exponential. It multiplies the amount you get by 3 each time, that's not exponential. Second, it does let you grow your hunter's guild, but not by all that much. Since the guild is worse than linear in gains (i don't know the exact formula) you would rapidly need 10 or 20 tries to double the guild bonus.
Third, if you don't care about using hunter's guild and getting it an Oom or so up, you can just use traders and do this much faster.
So ultimately it would take me 120 or so goes at doing this trick to get the amount of increased shields i would need to get one more gold card in green. Which would take probably hours of mind numbing clicks. If i wanted a temporary advancement (and yes it would be pretty temporary, since you haven't increased your income that much, you've just generated a burst of actual resource over and over) i could just use a cheat engine. I'm not going to do either, but i just felt it was worth pointing out that breaking the game with this exploit would be incredibly slow and redundant to other available ways to do so.
