Romance - Problem
I was attempting to romance Elton but was unable to do his path. Looking into the app.asar, I found the following:

1. Here is the only place where I can see you can activate a date: (variable in bold letters)

*if ( elton_romance = 2 ) and ( elton_flirt = false )
#"Once ${busy_desc}, I'd like to see your library." I'm trying to maneuver my way toward either a date, or Elton telling me he's still recovering from the loss of his wife; I just want to know one way or another.
*set elton_flirt true
*gosub_scene tester elton_romance
*if melodie_romance > 2
*comment dlc_note Once the DLC drops, this will get replaced with poly options
"Well, ${name}, to speak plainly, that sounds like fun, but Melodie would kill me," Elton says. "She's a bit territorial."
*elseif podge_romance > 2
"That could be fun, ${name}, but to speak plainly, I'm not getting between Patrick and what he wants," Elton says.
*elseif nin_romance > 2
"That could be fun, ${name}," but I don't want to get between you and Nin," Elton says. "More importantly, I don't want to anger my little wolf-born friend."
*if pass
*set elton_date_available true
*set elton_romance 3

2. For that, "elton_flirt = false" is necessary, but the variable is defined as follows:
*create elton_flirt "So, where do you find all those flattering coats?"

It is possible I could be wrong, and I am missing something.

I'm not sure what it is, I might be missing something too. I'm trying to romance Melodie on my second playthrough and she turned me down when I asked her out for dinner (oof). I thought all you had to do was not miss the chance to flirt with your chosen packmate as soon as possible, and I have 3 dots with her (which is where I was at with Nin on my first playthrough, and Nin said yes to the date), but she still turned me down. Are there more variables in the code? I'm wondering if I made a decision earlier that would've permanently shut off possibility of romance with Melodie for the rest of the game.

On that note, if you didn't get with anybody before the second year, can you still romance someone in the second half of the game even if you didn't flirt with them in the first year?

On CoG forum someone said that you need decent amount of Charisma for Elton, Podge and Melodie romance (not sure about Nomi but probably Charisma too) while for Nin you need decent Composure instead, not sure how many is enough tho, probably 3 or more.

That checks out. I actually came to that realization on my own when I considered that my first character was a high charisma (and also high composure, btw) galliard and my theurge is not. I don't want all my characters to have generic 'builds' so I'm fine with my theurge being a kind of weirdo that her packmates like but don't want to date. We really do need a guide, there's lots of hidden technicalities in this game!

So, seems to be confirmed that Charisma is an important stat for the non-Nin romances after all. I'm all the way in Chapter 9, wasn't spoken for but had flirted with Elton once at the beginning of the game -- bumped my Charisma up to 3 and tried flirting with Elton again at the Hog Throne show (where you prepare to move against the Cult of Fenris) and the romance kicked off without a hitch.

Third playthrough and having 2 Charisma and 4 points of relationship with Melodie will net you a dance with her in the Nin recruitment chapter. Side with her against Podge about not trusting Fenris, and make sure you flirt with her at least once after you retrieve her in the Ashfield chapter. (I went Melodie > Podge > Nin in order this time).

By the way, Composure doesn't seem to be related for Nin's romance -- somebody on reddit romanced Nin with 1 point in Composure the whole game.
