Clone Drone in the Hyperdome

Black boxes instead of energy weapon effects
Hi!
I have an issue where every weapon I see in the game has a black box attached to it, which gets larger the farther away the weapon is.
This makes duels much more difficult, as I can’t clearly see the opponent’s weapons, and from a distance, I can’t see past them at all.

After watching other people’s gameplay, I noticed that their weapons have a flashy, energetic glow. I suspect that this effect isn’t loading or rendering properly in my game for some reason. The weapons I can somewhat see — the ones in my hands or on the ground — appear yellow-ish, but without the glow effect, and they still have a small black box behind them.

I’m playing on a Quest 2 linked to a PC that is well above the recommended specs and had no problems with other games.
I’ve already tried verifying the integrity of the game files on Steam, reinstalling the game, and using both Air Link and Steam Link through Meta, but nothing has fixed the issue.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I loved the first game and really want to play this one, but this issue makes it, at best, annoying and frustrating, and at worst, extremely difficult.

Hello there, and apologies for the weird graphics abnormality you are experiencing. Kudos to you so far for doing your due diligence and trying out different connection methods and verifying your files!

I haven't heard of this issue before, but I might have some stuff you can try. Just as a kind of anecdote, a very long time ago I remember my graphics card control panel settings causing similar issues with some games. That would be the place I would start. Depending on your vendor, I would try either resetting your global preferences, or creating a profile specifically for CDHD so you can try out some different things.

Forcing AA or AF filtering can sometimes cause similar graphics artifacts. We also happen to use Unity, which can cause its own sort of issues. If you can, try using default settings to see if that clears stuff up. If that doesn't do anything you could try updating or rolling back your drivers to see if that changes anything.

This probably has nothing to do with it, but for me I sometimes forget to reset my SteamVR settings back to 1.0 or 1.5 render scale from running simpler, less demanding games. There are also some settings there you could experiment with regarding variable rate shading and the like. If you would like further help in that let me know. I can look up some guides for SteamVR graphics settings specifically.

I would start with your graphics control panel, maybe update or downgrade drivers, and make sure your render scale is set up for CDHD. It's not the most demanding game in the world, but it does use Unity and that doesn't always play nice with everyone.

Good luck and please do let me know how it goes, and if you need any additional assistance!

Cheers,
