It's possible that friends cannot join, even if sv_lan is 0.. But then you need to open your CSS server port (normally 27015) in your router/modem and ur up. :) After that you can specify more settings in a server.cfg @ your strike > cfg folder
Open you ports and type sv_lan 0 into console. After that, have your friend join your game through their friends list or just send them an invite.
my poop reached my penis what do i do now
sv_lan 0 doesnt work, I still cant join.

New to Creating a Counter Strike Source server I need a walk through or an easy link to create a server
All of this is so complicated and I am thoroughly confused. I created a server yesterday and wanted my daughter sitting opposite me (so on the same network/wifi) to play in my server. For some reason this was not an easy thing! Neither of our LAN server was visible to the other. After hours of trying to find out how to get this working, I ended up connecting the laptops via an ethernet cable and by chance was messing about in the network connections. I bridged the ethernet connection to my wifi connection and bingo bango, it works!

This is something relatively simple that you could try before getting into the confusing world of consoles and command prompts. Hope it helps someone!
