Getting like 10fps
last time I played css everything was working fine, but when i tried to play today im getting like 10fps in any server, even my own. This pc can run newer games like tomb raider and bioshock infinite on maxed settings with like 50fps, so idk why it is randomly struggling with cs source?
what could be the problem?

Is your PC newer than 1998?

Okayno, turn the settings down?
I mean you said it can run new games like tomb raider, but specs always help{not that it should really matter, most laptops can run this game on low with playable fps}

Try looking at the games 'minimum' or the 'recomended' setting of CS:S. You can see this by checking it's store page. Check it's settings with the ones in your P.C.

yes my pc far exceeds both minimum and recomended settings for CSS. And as i've said, i've played CSS before with constant 100+ fps, i just dont know why the fps is so bad now

It could be possible that it might be using the on-board graphics. I have heard of cases where it doesn't always enable the dedicated video card.
I just reinstalled CSS and Im getting low fps too, I used to be at/around 299fps and now im stuck at 60, sometimes it would go to 61. I know it can go higher, but what gives???

I tried rolling back my nvidia drivers for my gtx 660, turned vsync off, lowered some settings (i know css won't eat up my card), and to no avail.
my specs:
2600k
asrock extreme4-m
12gb 1600 ram
120gb patriot wildfire gaming drive
win7 64bit pro

@paddington 60fps sounds like vsync is enabled. you can disable it in video options.

lol 60fps is fine, human eye can only register 24 fps.

yes, but you can 'feel' the difference. this is an argument that is gonna come your way if anyone else find this XD

This is completely false. This rumor quite possibly came from the fact that 24 FPS is a standard for the film industry. It's false nonetheless. I have run in-depth tests on the matter. The limit in which the human eye stops percieve a significant difference is, in fact, 60 FPS. You can refer to this tool to test it for yourself:

http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/

When it comes to first-person-shooters however, you can FEEL the difference beyond 60 FPS in terms of accuracy and stability.

Same thing happened to me. Clean your graphics card, all the dust and stuff, and it should be back to normal

Why would that help... All that would mean is that his card is passively cooling or something{throttling back} Which, If other games run fine, wouldn't be the case

I just updated my CS:S or DOD:S game conversion whatever, go back into gaming and I'm getting ~20FPS from a usual 80+
