can't open the console in any way
I don't have the tilde key and wanted to open the console by using the console to bind the toggleconsole key but it doesn't open it anyway. I went in the cfg file changing the keybind manually from the file and doesn't open again. Why is it happening?

Never edit directly your user config file as it will be overridden by the SteamCloud one anyway at launch, it's useless. However, you can force a bind in the autoexec.cfg.

By the way, the normal way to open your console in Counter-Strike Source is by adding "-console" to your launch arguments in your Steam library.

yeah I added the -console at launch but I need to open it multiple times. Thanks fot the tips btw
So at the first launch with the console, you can manually bind a key with "bind <key> toggleconsole" that works

it doesn't work for me. For doing the tilde key on my keyboard I have to press alt+ 126 and works everywhere but not in the console, when I press this combination it cancels everything I wrote before
Why you want the tilde key? Try "bind m toggleconsole" for example, There has never been a problem with this and we all have the same game.

I don't want the tilde key, I just explained that when I try to type it in the console, it does cancel the text I wrote. I will try to use the command you wrote and get back to you with an update

Bro I swear. I am new to css and idk if I'm doing something wrong. I opened the game, i copied the command you wrote and pressed "m" but it wrote m in the console, so I pressed the x icon with the mouse to close it and typed m and it did not open. I think I'm doing something wrong at this point but idk what.
I see. The key you bind is supposed to be used while in a game, not in the menu. Otherwise indeed, it will write in your console. A workaround is to have a custom menu with a button that open back the console, in main menu.

oh. The custom key in the menu is not needed. Thank you for the help. Appreciate it.

Main Page>Options>Advanced ( at bottom of pop up window ).
Select " Developers Console " tickbox. Apply.

And Config files wont be overwritten by SteamCloud.
If they are READ ONLY.
Just sayin'.
