I dont want to run a game on a dedicated machine. i just want to open a lan server in my lan to play with a friend, in the same way it WORKED MANY TIMES BEFORE! we pulled down firewall on both machines, we tested the the ports with nentstat and telnet, its NO FIREWALL PROBLEM.

I have the same problem with my 3 machines. They have always worked well on Lan when I play with my grandkids and now they will not connect to server on any of the three even though steam says they are in a game. Not a firewall problem here either. Any help would be appreciated.

Since the last update it's been no LAN
use hamachi

My grandkids are happy. We can now use the lan and play multiplayer.

I should add that an update must have fixed the previous problem and not anything from my end.

Hmmm i just create a game via the menu and change "sv_lan 1" to "sv_lan 0" in the console then load another map (or the same) and my buddy can join.

I use keybindings for all that so i just press two buttons and my server is ready for shooting, knifing, throwing nades and stuff. :)

bind "i" "sv_lan 0; say sv_lan 0" bind "l" "changelevel_next"

But what do i know. I'm just a noob playing against bots cooperatively with my buddy to relax after a stressful day.

PS: To open the console go to CS:S's properties in your library and put "-console" in the "set launch options" textbox. (if you put "-novid" in there as well the intromovie will be no longer annoy you ... separate both with a space)

Check if CSS is allowed in your firewall settings. Windows 10 is kinda dumb compared to Windows 7 when it comes to allowing obvious good software access through the firewall.

Just wanna bring this back up since this happened to us AFTER enabling the console.. it seems that the console triggered sv_lan to go to the value 1. we changed it and then the map too and bingo bango it worked.
we use hamachi and local lan mixed
