Black screen soft locking (with error log)
So I can play for a while, but every session after about 15-20 mins my screen just randomly goes black. I can still HEAR all the game sounds, but it's like the graphics drivers just die.

Yes I've got a good gaming PC, yes I've got the latest drivers, no it doesn't happen on any other game.

This game is absolutely ruined, but I'm trying to salvage what I can from it so does anyone know anything about this issue and how I might stop it please?

Right. So I've found a solution to this (and the problem).

Apparently, it's the 3080ti running into stability issues in UE5 games because they push it too hard compared to other engines (as it's not very optimised yet). This is with an Inno3d 3080 Ti iChill Black Edition.

What I had to do to solve it is undervolt the card a bit, and also put a temp limit on power.
Install MSI afterburner then follow this video from 1:00 to 2:00 time (don't do the rest of it, after he talks about going further - just stick to the stability settings).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdwI75DLfYU&ab_channel=ImWateringPSUs

As well as what he does up until 2:00 mark, I also reduced the "Temp Limit" down to 78c. Make sure to also set MSI Afterburner to start with windows, and minimised. Then minimise it after saving profile (don't close it with the X). He shows this part at around 2:45 in the video.

Now in ARK I also went for an FPS cap of 60, and DLSS mode on Performance.

With all of the above, I'm no longer crashing with a black screen / hard reset.

Hope this might help someone else solve the problem. Apparently the 3080ti's are just super power hungry and running in very high temps can cause some issues.

I tried playing without the official Gigantoraptor mod, and it still crashes with black screen. So that's completely unmodded.

Found my crash log, not that it makes any sense. Some of them say device hung, some device reset. Either way it's a base kernal/dll issue the game is not happy with something and yes it's the game NOT my machine. Everything else works fine on my machine, except this dumb game.

Intel cpu?
Vandragorax Mar 17, 2024 @ 4:11pm
Yes intel. Is there something about Intel and ARK that I don't know about?
Automatic12pro Mar 17, 2024 @ 4:22pm
essentially it may be the cpu bios settings, too high voltage which ruins performance

lol no it's not that. Everything else runs fine on my machine, temps not a problem, etc. it's a stable and working system.

The problem is this idiotic game where the devs clearly don't know wtf they are doing with UE5.

I guess the devs don't bother reading these posts though, so likely I'm just talking into a void at this point.

Correct they do not read these. If you’re certain CPU isn’t the issue, is anything OC? Is Rbar an option and enabled? Do you use any steam run commands like -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Vandragorax Mar 18, 2024 @ 4:19am
Nah nothing is overclocked, none of the commands either. As I said my system is stable and been running for a year without any issues on any other games.
Vandragorax Mar 18, 2024 @ 4:21am
Guess I'll just have to wait for a patch and hope they fix it. If it was a normal crash I could deal with it, but the fact it just kills my GPU driver and I have to press the reset button on my machine isn't something I want to have to do a lot.
Vandragorax Mar 20, 2024 @ 6:43am
Right, I may have solved this one as I played all day yesterday with no crashing to black screen.

My change? Forced max fps to 30 in the settings.
Automatic12pro Mar 20, 2024 @ 10:26pm
what GPU?
Vandragorax Mar 21, 2024 @ 10:45am
So even forcing 30fps it still does the black screen crash. It just survives for a lot longer before doing it. I can play for maybe 1-2hrs at a time now.

It's a 3080ti hybrid cooled.

Are you playing on The Island? Because just an FYI, any other map IS a mod and I know some of them were having issues after the update.

Yes the Island. The ONLY mod I have is the official Gigantoraptor one. I also tried a fresh game start without this mod too and it still gave me the same black screen issue after a while of playing.

I got a 3080ti as well (Gigabyte) with latest drivers but do not experience this although that doesn't mean much. I don't run mods except for the new bird and play on Epic settings at 1080 uncapped, yeah FPS isn't amazing but for single player it's cool. I do run on AMD CPU 7950X3D though. This game pegs GPU at max at all times so if there is any instability this will show up more in this game than any other games I play.

Perhaps check if you have any system utilities running and shut them down or kill their processes? Also monitor the core temps of your GPU and CPU even if you have great cooling its not a bad idea to always check, can do this easily under task manager.
