However I have yet to test whether it keeps my characters for each map.
Edit - whoops, I mean that it DOES force new character creation upon changing map. In just unsure if loading island again will restore that character.
2) Switch map.
3) Download character onto new map.
ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS
I use separate character for each map, no transfers, no cluster.
Also "switch map" is the issue I'm asking about.
It is a simple process but should not be considered a backup.
Saves can also occur manually using the command console like "cheat saveworld" or when closing a world using "cheat doexit"
Depending on the risk of "game progress loss" you wish to avoid you should also consider backing up those files regularly.
I did notice however that the Saved file now contains BOTH maps, Island and Scorched (the two I've set up servers for). That's handy.
I'd heard the file also contains character and configuration data so less work to restore at the expense of a few gigs.
Backing up your Saved folder backs up all maps, the characters that you used on those maps, and your configuration file which probably stores things like rates.
So the final answer is this.
You can change which map your dedicated server is running by simply changing the name in the bat file (when off obv), and it will bring along your characters from that map, if previously created. Switching between maps successfully switches characters as well. This is for unclustered dedicated servers.
Would someone mind reposting the bolded part of my post so that I can mark it as the answer.
