Extreame update sizes
I love the game, ASA and ASE, even play them both a lot even now.
That being said, i can no longer keep, at least ASA, installed.
The enormous updates recently take upwards of an hour due to the size and the way they are installed (downloaded to largest drive then patched to the install drive), sorry but given the size of the game it's a bit annoying to have to keep 200 gigs free on the same drive...
So if you can please release a news patch or notice, or something i will gladly reinstall and continue playing, gonna miss my puppers for a while...
Again would like to say: even though I don't agree with the whole remaking the game and re-selling it full price even to those who bought every expac, I still love the game and will return, WHEN the ridiculous, almost daily, giant updates stop.

Most updates are 300 to 600 Mb. When a new map comes out it may be 20 GB, there has never been a patch for the whole 180GB. The downloads are much smaller but it sometimes takes forever to read write the small updates to the whole 180 Gb installation. Everyone who complains about DOWNLOADING the whole 180 GB is wrong.

I am aware of the size of updates, and the size of maps, I dedicated a whole 1T ssd to these two games.
Regardless of the data sizes it makes a claim of 180+ gigs to my hdd because it is larger and for some reason has to use that much room, i have watched it do it, it reserves 180+ gigs on hdd then it takes about 30mins to an hour to fully patch to the ssd.
And here recently it has been often, i do love the work and time being put in, but I wait 30-60mins and then i just get in the mood to play something else, or get caught up in a show or something.
Also the "download" thing yeah I'm aware... Modern internet can hit 1GB/s so 180gb of data to download should be about 3-5mins depending on service, so 30-60mins for the hopping around of data between a slow HDD and fast SSD.... Idk, just tired of it after so many times i had to wait just to play the game...

Same. Is there a way to only install the map you are playing? That would free up sooo much space!

Only map i was playing on ASA was extinction.
I have uninstalled ASA and ASE (ASE had 400gb alone in just map data lol), so i may try reinstalling ASA and see how it works.

Steam recently changed the way patches are downloaded and installed. It used to download the patch and then install it but now it has a blue bar for downloading and a green one for installing and mine now installs the patch while it is downloading and as soon as it is done downloading it is done installing too.

Yeah same.
But i'm giving it another go, the drive it is on now has 433gb free so if it tries to use my HDD rather than the SSD it is on then i know there is an issue else where.

What is your POINT? You do understand the problem exists regardless of how people are phrasing it. RIGHT? You also understand that you're defending wildcard, the bad guy. What on earth are you trying to accomplish by being pedantic or worse, obtuse? Just trolling? Do you think by informing people of the difference between "downloading" and "patching," all of their problems will be solved and everything will be right with the world? Pathetic.

Figured it out.
It was my SSD not having enough space to fully patch so it do it on the HDD for some reason, now that i have 400gb free on the install SSD it no longer has long patch times.

Welp, guess I was wrong all a long.
187gb update... it's just the stupid broken way Ark updates.
Full rewrite of main files for some if not all updates, confirmed from many sources too.
Absolutely lost on why this is the only game in my library that does this...
