Interestingly, I was able to swim around without a mount in the artifact room for quite a long time but as soon as I stopped to loot the artifact I got nailed.
I've since breed an army of megalo and xi's and I'm going to unleash them all in that cave and see what they can do, I'm not overly confident.
Alternative is to go to centre map for the artifact
I recently went (3 weeks ago to be precised) with a friend of mine (2 players only mounted on 1 dino each only).
My friend mounted a Deinosuchus for which the stats I'm not a 100% sure but was arround 20-30k HP. (Edit: My friend confirms he had 30k HP).
Myself, I mounted a Baryonix with 8k HP & 800% Melee.
I was stunning strategically as in I would try to stun partially in group of 3-4 so that I could alternate the stun and have only part of the ambush able to attack and attack myself the ennnemy inbetween stuns.
My friend would do his best to maximise his bite to inflict the most damage possible.
We did have to stop after each ambush to heal up (or rather, I would stop and heal up by feeding my Bary as I didn't have any fish arround to eat).
The second ambush qas the most dangerous but it wasn't all that bad non the less.
The trick with their 'giga bite' on the deino is to bite once then swim away as the damage takes affect whilst the bitten dino is moving.
I normally take a mated deino with me for the extra damage. I have tried taking a small group of Xi with me but found the AI is terrible and every 5 seconds they get stuck.
Water tames last about 10 seconds in that room so there is no point using them as the main damage dealer. Firstly I got the giga to stand on the platform in the artifact room and eat everything that was in it's bite range.
I then put a basilo down and whistled follow (while I was standing on the platform), as soon as it had attracted enough sharks, I soul balled and ate everything with the giga. Kept repeating this until there were perhaps 5-10 sharks left and then cleaned up with the basilo
Took me over an hour, 800 shark teeth.
It's cheesy but I just don't see how any water tame, regardless of saddle, can clear that room.
By the way, prior to doing the above I released 10 imprinted, saddled and mated Megaladons and 10 more Xip's and all 20 of them lasted no more than 20 seconds in there.
