Gene scanner issues

I have been having issues with the gene scanner, I have been trying to find both a giga and a phoenix(s) but for both the scanner says "no applicable creatures found on the ark within your level" I am level 105 and have done some prior research that seems to contradict its behavior for others some of that research includes that the scanner has a range which from what I understand is only 100ish meters which contradicts what I have seen on videos and in other threads whenever it finds these creatures it finds them from well over 1000 meters (as far as I am aware they are not using any form of mod) essentially I want some clarification of how far I can be to find a creature using the scanner and what levels this thing will find when I myself am max level (10 my knowledge)

I've tracked a giga across The Island with gene scanner, so range seems to be map-wide. If the giga/phoenix is not detected it could mean they haven't been spawned.

This was in single-player with no mods changing the function of the gene-scanner and -preventhibernation used on launch preferences.

Are you single player? And if so have you disabled hibernation?

I play single player and have disabled hibernation and my scanner works all over the map.

I wonder if it makes a difference? I know mods that displays dinos across the map requires the -preventhibernation line in the start command.

I mean technically yes but it is more of I host my world to play with a friend

I dont know what you mean by preventhibernation I didnt even know that was a thing

do you guys know if it can find phoenix ash piles or are those not counted
