Why 1gb update need 193gb worth of space to update?

I am trying to update the game but it is saying I need the entire size of Ark as free space for the update??? This has to be a mistake....anyone else?

It over writes whats already there FFS, how do you think they add an update to your game. Every game on steam does the same thing.

Same here, I would basically have to wipe my pc...So now I am unsure if i should uninstall or wait it out and try later... like what game asks for 500gb to update XD

It does not redownload the whole game, the patch is under 1Gb but it needs to move 183Gb of files around, so it needs to have more than 183Gb free to be able to do so.

I do agree that it is a pain, but that is how it is and many games on Steam does it the same way.

Personally I have never had this problem before, And I never have over 200GB free space... I update dozens of games on multiple platforms... so something is weird here...

I get what you are saying Calypso, but both ASE and ASA updates that way, including many other games.
Granted, most of the other games do not ask for that much. It would be nice if ASA was also the same.

FR, just had to uninstall this garbage (Nah, I do like the game). Honestly though, what a shame to us players.. GAMES TAKE TOO MUCH SPACE.

yes but 100s of games do this by checking files in sections and does not require the whole file space to be allocated there for only the space for new files and small amount of space required for save and clean up this i have no idea what the hell they are doing to require 185 G of space

Reason is they use the 1 file packing option from UE5. ASA is ~200 files and ~95% of this is packaged into one single file.

This 1 file package method is a weird choice, esp for a game this large, with full mod support and in full development(EA).

the file itself thats being patched is around 180gb. shame they don't optimize it.

for those that are stuck at updating : delete ShooterGame-Windows.ucas and verify the files again. this might trick it to use less space (you will have to download it ofcourse)
