How is damage done?
Ok, so I'm really confused about how damage on weapons works. There's no base number, only a %. I got an ascended Stone axe, and then got Ascended Iron axe, both had around 350% damage. I understand iron is stronger than stone, but it really doesn't make a lot sense, how can we tell if/when one stage is better. Like this ascended stone axe is way stronger than primitive metal axe.

It's a %age... a basic stone hatchet do 20 melee damage, a basic metal hatchet do 40 melee damage, if you found 1 stone with 350% it's 350% from 20 and same with metal, if you found one with 350% it will be 350% from 40.

using your example, a 350% Stone Axe would deal more damage than a 100% Iron Axe. But the 100% Iron Axe would still mine more metal than the 350% Stone Axe (relatively). In your case, you'd want to use the 350% Iron Axe since that would mine more metal and resources than the 350% Stone Axe.

Does it show base damage somewhere in the game? I must be looking right at it if so.

stone has a lower gathering rate for "rare" materials than metal so metal would always be better, it just would do less damage. the node would break quicker with the 350% stone axe, but you would get a lot fewer "rare" materials from it because it still has a very low chance to get any at all. pick always has a higher chance than axe to get rare metals too, like a stone axe may have a 3% chance vs a 10% chance for a stone pick vs a 20% chance for a metal axe vs a 50% chance for a metal pick
