190GB space for 1GB patch
I’m a big fan of ARK and truly appreciate the hard work that’s gone into ARK: Survival Ascended. However, I’d like to address a major issue that severely impacts the gaming experience: the enormous storage requirements for updates.

A patch that is only 1 GB in size often requires over 190 GB of free space because the game seems to be reorganized or moved during the update process. For players with limited storage, this is a significant obstacle, especially since the game is already so large.

Here are a few suggestions that could greatly improve this situation:

Optimize the update process to reduce temporary storage requirements.
Provide an option to easily uninstall unused content, such as maps or DLCs.
Improve communication by displaying the actual storage requirements for updates beforehand.

I’m certain many players, myself included, would greatly appreciate these changes. The current situation makes it difficult to enjoy the game, even though we love it.

I hope this feedback is taken seriously, and we can see improvements soon. Thank you in advance for your hard work and understanding!

yeah i have the same problem i recently got the game only managed to play like 30 hrs, and every other day there seems to be an update that requires me to have so much space in my SSD when i have already deleted so many games to be able to install it in the first place. Also updating 190 GB for someone who lives in Australia where the internet is relatively sh*t it takes about 10 hrs to finish. Which i usually have to do overnight, making the gaming experience not possible and annoying. Which has made me somewhat give up on even trying to finish the game if i always have to go through this experience whenever there is an update. I hope they try to fix this issue relatively soon because i have been a fan of this game for years watching hundreds of videos on it, but only recently having a PC strong enough to run the game decently. Previously the only experience i had playing the game was on the Mobile edition.

I completely agree; optimising the storage requirements for updates and offering better management options for unused content would greatly improve the experience for many dedicated players.

Seems like almost the whole game is packed into one file, and somehow the file has to be processed every single time. Not even any choice to remove maps or dlc content. Maybe this is already in the to do list before getting out of the early access that seems to last forever.

That is kinda normal imo, as you usually download a compressed version, thats 50gb, then it has to unpack it into the main folder, which can be 50-100gb depending on what it takes up, so they make sure you have enough space for Download + Unpacking.

Yeah bro, I have 318 GB of free space for a 190 GB update size, but 500 MB in actuality. This ♥♥♥♥ is getting ridiculous.

It's been this way since the first patch way back in October 2023, I doubt it will ever change, probably part of the design.

The forced death march of development pace here. Snail's killing their only good game by working the people that make it to the nub.

It's Christmas and Snail forced a map release anyway, to try and cash in on Christmas money.

I can't financially support this. I'm not going to run good people through the meatgrinder just for a subpar remaster to make money for some moron who lost all of his on bad ventures and God-knows-what-else.

We're killing good people for a bad dino game. That's crazy. I won't do it.

Yeah I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it and guess what, in Ark Ascended's entirety of file size, it's only 204 GB in reality, so why in the ♥♥♥♥ is it's update sizes saying like 190 GB or some ♥♥♥♥. Actually making me visibly upset after I've spent the last hour and a half ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with my steam files and moving other games over to my other file just so I can have room for Ark.
