Massively increased GPU use when in Inventory/Crafting window
Hey, folks.

I know that ARK is not the best-optimized game out there and it is hard on GPUs and CPUs. I fully expected heavy GPU load in the regular environment -- running around fighting dinos, etc. Turns out, with my 10 GB 3080 RTX, that has not really been the case with most graphics settings on medium to high. The game performs quite well...

... but then, when I open inventory or the crafting menu or the Engram list, if I keep that window open longer than 30 or 40 seconds, all of a sudden my GPU use goes through the roof, the GPU card fan starts to run really fast, and the card gets quite warm.

Now, it's not overheating... it's staying well within acceptable limits. But generally when this happens, it's because a game is trying to run my system at an insane FPS rate, like 240 or something. I have ARK and most games liked to 60 FPS to prevent this -- I find 60 perfectly acceptable and it keeps the card nice and quite on every game, even ARK... *except* when I am in the Inventory/crafting window/engram window. Then, and only then, the card starts gasping for air.

I have tried a Google/DuckDuckGo search in this and not really found anything. I have tried both the ON and OFF settings on menu transitions - the only thing that popped at all when I searched. Most articles or videos on performance seem to focus on performance during the actual game-play (in the world) not with the UI Menus open. And although I guess doing something like turning off volumetric clouds *could* affect this situation, I find that rather doubtful.

I have the feeling there is ONE setting, somewhere, that will fix the high pressure on the video card.... much like how using the OS to limit games to 60 FPS has done that for games like Planet Zoo, X4, Starfield , etc... But I just have to find it.

Has anyone faced this situation and solved it?

There is a bug on Aberration that causes your inventory to lag like hell if you're standing in one place for too long. The solution is to suicide.

I already use alt-r from nVidia, so I don't think that is causing it. Also, I'm not on Aberration... although I realize whatever was introduced in the update might be propagated across the entire game. I don't generally have other stuff open in the background. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I don't, and this happens either way. Again, it only happens when I have inventory/emgram/crafting windows open, so it seems like the game is doing something in those windows... and I have the feeling if I can turn whatever that is off, it will solve the issue. But thanks for the suggestions.

It's the green glowy effect from your wrist engram behind the menu UI. It's always done that, even on ASE, except with Lumen it's now one billion times harder hitting on the GPU.

Hm... I wonder if there is any setting that will turn it off. Shame you can't make the inventory screen solid instead of semi-transparent... that might block it.

Hello. That is because frame generation (dlss) was turned off in menu, console and structures inventories. Type stats fps in console in game and you see on screen FG status. I resolve this issue not perfect but works. I setup in game settings fps limit to 30fps (native fps) in menu but you still get 60fps in game. FG make 30fps x 2.
