Worth buying?
AOE was THE best in the class of open world survival games. However, for me it always suffered from PVE building issues dues to the huge amount of pillars scattered around. Is ASA still the same?

I've tried other survival games since but Ark still remains king for me.

It's a clone of ASE. Every issue you ever had will be the same.
And it's gotten much MUCH worse, since they are trying to make every unthinkable thing, something you will need to pay real money for individually, after buying the game that is already priced as a full and complete game.

Do. Not. Support. These. Thieves.

I've never been disappointed that I bought it. I've only ever had minor bugs here and there and all the maps are free on ASE and plenty of free mods I have enjoyed. I don't care about what the company has or hasn't done. I just know I love playing.

Many of the mechanics have been improved, especially the building. The consensus seems to be that official servers aren't everyone's favorite, so you should be able to find plenty of unofficial servers without 10,000 pillars.
I'm immensely pleased with it, so far, and the planned maps not being premium DLC is great value; I got A:SE during one of the giveaway weeks and never left Valguero. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Avoid, unless you smoke cope and want to enable an abusive relationship with the parent company who's only interest is fleecing you with a botched half effort to scam more money out of you.

I love ASA, too, it has some improvements. With buildings you can pick up every building part now. No more pipes/cables needed to connect things to water/generators. Many adult dinos have childs, so kill the adult and adopt (claim) the childs.

But: Be aware that you do not only buy ASA, but you also need a much better hardware than for ASE. If you have a two terabyte SSD this will help to avoid several crashes which are due to lack of space.

As ASE is king for you, I'd say test ASA :D

If you loved ASE then you will probably love ASA as long as you have a pc that can run it reasonably well.

Some people are unhappy about paid dlc being released this early but I mean if you played ASE, paid dlc during early access should come as no surprise.

The building improvements alone make it worth the upgrade to me.

I was a late joiner. I bought ASE and initially thought ASA was an expansion, so I only played ASE for about 30 minutes before I read up on it and found out ASA was same game but on Unreal 5 so I mainly stuck with ASA, I got about 490 hours into it so for the price I would say it was well worth it. Buggy quite a few times but it wasn't game breaking. I think its a good game, could be better and hoping it improves over time. But worth it, I'd say yes.

In the current state? Unless you like to play Official Servers this game is not worth buying.

They made anti-mesh more aggressive in the play area so you will die if you land on a rock/mountain in a lot of places losing your dino and inventory to instant delete.

They do not enforce the Code of Conduct unless Battle Eye bans someone or you are playing on a Conquest server (they are very active there).

This game is marked as "early release", it is not not ready for players and is far buggier than Evolved in too many ways, this alone is a major reason not to buy it.

Them taking the Evolved servers offline before this game was "full release" was ridiculous and forced anyone who wants to stay ahead of mutations to switch over immediately.

They are showing signs of "Jewing" players by not caring about the servers/game-play bugs but constantly wanting to sell you something like OP advantage Dino DLC that PvP players have to buy if they want to play in a "fair" environment.

The PvE Experience is about the same as it was late stage Evolved, people are pillar spamming and "Claiming" spots on servers to "reduce server lag" by limiting players, the admins are currently not taking action against these players so most servers are doing it.
I have something like 350 hours in ASA and have not had significant problems since launch. There's a ton of people here who don't own the game who pop into every one of these threads and claim it's a scam.

It isn't, it's a great deal of fun and an improvement over the original. It's 40 bucks for 11 re-mastered maps and all the dinosaurs (Plus even more) included.

Game is fine, and it's still early access. They just announced a major engine upgrade on or near the launch of Abberation in September. You cannot beat the amount of content you get in this game for 40 bucks.

Let the whiners and haters cry in the corner.

To each their own. After 6k hours in ASE, I'm definitely enjoying ASA. There are definitely some legit criticisms that can be made though, and I can't say I like the direction Wildcard is pushing...... They seem to have gotten increasingly money hungry, but since that's the stuff that makes the world go round, it's hardly a surprise when companies do that.
That being said. To me it's worth it as an upgrade to ASE. I'm guessing you're still going to find the same frustrations on official servers, but to that I say just avoid official like the plague, find yourself a good player hosted server to play on and Ark on my friend!
