why is this 360mb patch updating 101gb of game files

its not, the 100gb is the patching process because it needs to unpack the archive files, add the updates content and then repack them. If your PC is so slow it takes as long to do this as downloading 100gb than throw it in the trash and go buy a console.

i restarted steam and its still stuck at 1% of actually 105gb for a 364mb patch

its literally stuck at 0 bytes per second, its not even installing anything. it says installing and both the rates are at 0.

It's just a combination of how Steam does updates, combined with how ASA keeps its files.

"ShooterGame/Content/Paks/ShooterGame-Windows.ucas" for instance is over 100gb is size, and even though they might only be changing a small part of it, Steam has to do a checksum to make sure it's changing the right parts. That involves reading the whole file. and it takes time, even on an SSD.

Also, here is a change log for this update btw, since they only bother to post them to their discord.

it glitched out. had to restart my computer to fix it. now its almost done. weird how ark has always had so many more problems with downloading and patching than other games. especially with the inconsistent download speeds

Steam might be thinking. it's Steam handling the update, not the game. You might just need to leave it running for a bit.

ya if on ssd and it takes more then 2-4 min you might want to start looking into your pc.. pc stats= poo if not config'd correctly..
