A question about starlink.
I'm curious if anyone who plays ASA or ASE has starlink and what y'all think about it? I've been looking into getting starlink. i want to know how it handles playing on non dedicated sessions with only 2 people on, my current internet is DSL, but its maximum download speed is 6 Mbps on a good day. I live out in the middle of no where in a small town with only one internet provider (other than satellite providers) thats starting to give up on maintaining our internet out here, we have had allot of internet issues in the past (disconnections internet shutting down randomly) we also pay a allot for it. Starlink would only be 40 dollars more a month compared to what we have now. anyways if anyone has any insight on how good or bad starlink works please fill me in.

I would google your question rather than ask on a small game forum.

Spending less than 15 seconds on this already answered your question here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/17ubmw5/starlink_gaming_experience_updated/

Midwesterner here, the ISPs in my area are non-existent/HughesNet/and Viasat. I switched to Starlink last April going from 800kbps from my old provider (yes, that bad lmao) to 35-40Mbps is a godsend. I rent a server from Nitrado and my connection is stable, only time I've noticed a disconnect was during a storm surge. I use the ethernet adapter for my dishy to my PC as users have pointed out that wifi to PC was subpar at best.

The issue is most wireless (satellite / cellular) internet can have higher or more inconsistent latency based on usage, cell traffic congestion, weather conditions, etc.

Latency is what can cause issues with gaming where as streaming video tends to have a buffer to get around delays in the packets. I think your DSL would be more consistent pings.

If you have ever experienced trying to watch satellite TV during a rainstorm then that could also possibly impact your gaming / internet in a similar fashion.

A mate of mine has a roaming kit that he uses in the UK. It's fast enough to play games online, not fast enough to do streaming effectively. Latency sits around 50ms on local servers, gets around 200/100 down up last I had checked.

EDIT: Which sounds alright in theory, but in reality those figures vary so when he tried like Twitch and stuff like that, it did not work out very well. Doesn't seem to have any issues playing games though.

As long as you aren't the Host it is fine. Can't Port Forward anything for Starlink.

ALL satellite based internet has terrible lag, Wife and I work from Point Lay AK and we use Starlink from there, it is always spotty and hit or miss at best. The pop of this village is under 300 so local traffic using starlink is low at its worst congestion.

Even the big internet provider in AK (company called CGi) uses satellite internet because it beans all of its cable and internet content through commercial grade satellite dishes. When i used that service it still had massive lag, but i was able to main heal raids in LOTRO. Yer mileage will vary.
