Trains Useful?
First off im playing on my own server cluster.

So i have played with the trains some now and the only real use i have found is to use it as a mobile forge and storage for going out on large harvest run for crystal and obsidian. On scorched I basically build a train line and on each end of the line i have a depot with teleporters. Then i move the train up and down the line with its industrial foges and two vaults. I then just use my anky arge method to go harvest everything and keep funneling it to the train. Move the train down the line and at the end the forge's and vault all dump out right where my teleporter is to move back to my main base to deposit into tek storages.

I don't see any other use of the train besides this outside of just playing around. Teleports and the fact that it doesn't move on its own once your too far away from it make it not very practical.

A easy fix to this imo would be first the train needs to be able to just go regardless of your proximity to it, and second have it so you can place a special track that acts as a destination track that you can then click on the train and then click on the special track and it will find its way there as long as the tracks are down.

Let me know what you think and what practical uses you have found thank you.

I feel like Trains are more a social thing on a PvE server. PvP would just grief the guys who make the tracks. Useless for me solo, the costs are too expensive unless i creative mode, and i can get there faster on an Argy or Wyvern.

Right but im just curious of any use for them people find in any of the game mods or settings.

Huge waste of time and very unsightly unless done right. PVE is a nightmare because tribes are running tracks everywhere across the landscape, and they block building too, its basically more spam on an already spammed map.

As it is now, it's a huge waste of time. I don't mind grinding, and building the tracks but the fact that trees can grow near the tracks and the train stops every time (instead of breaking the trees) renders them almost useless. I see some use for it though. You can build a base, even a Forge on top of it. You can automatically travel to locations which is really nice. You can be afk, or even do something else yet you will still arrive to the destination. I build around my bases\metal farming spots for faster farming.

Just the tracks themselves are pretty useful for making raised roads through rocky areas that are otherwise a pain to cross.

The way I used them, was to build a track and basic train for Scorched Earth, in creative mode, before I even started playing in survival. It was a nice twist, on the map, to have a transport, slow as it is, for metal runs.

But now that I'm later game, I mostly just like to chill out in the caboose, watching the scenery pass by, when I'm done playing, but I still want to hang in the game a little bit more. It's kind of like watching someone else play on youtube. Works with the western town theme too, if you wanted to build one.

Building a Snowpiercer-type train for the Island right now. Would be nice if they could eventually add some skins for the engine. But I doubt that'll be happening anytime soon.
