IT"S A FILE CHECK not an UPDATE!

UPDATE is around 350MB, that gets downloaded, after that the whole game get's a file check and get's patched where needed.

So it DOES NOT download the 109+ GB.

You on a HDD ? or a SSD ? If SSD do you have at least 200gb of free space on that drive ? If HDD... well thats under minimum specs, so its gonna be like that.

File check or no, ssd or hdd or no, the process takes far too long. And it is taking longer and longer the larger the game gets. This needs to be fixed.

Well if you pay attention to games other than Ark you would know that it is a STEAM issue not Ark issues. Knowledge is key and the answer to this issue. Unreal games seem to have this issue more often then any other game out there. Contact Steam Support they will tell you it is a Hardware issues. Of course that is crap we know that. The more complaints on the issue that actually get to Steam the more likely they are to fix it. I spent all day yesterday installing a game to check it out after years of development, took the other half the day to uninstall the game. Installed on a Brand new 4TB SSD so clearly not hardware.

To those that fail to read the download page, first Steam Reserves space for the game. Then Steam Downloads the game. Then Steam slowly patching the game one file at a time. This is STEAM doing this. There is no way that WC or any developer can fix this.
If you buy a Samsung TV at the local Walmart do you blame Samsung if apps are slow to load onto that TV? No you would look at the Operating System in the TV.
Either people need to start educating themselves on these sorts of issues with Steam or just except that you have to live with this. I have a 1Gbps connection and still I have slow updates going to a 4TB SSD that was just bought in Dec 2023. So the common denominator when multiple games have this issue is only STEAM.

All those Braindead replys...

Its NOT the Games fault, its Steam or your Computer.

I downloaded 50gb and installed 110gb in just 30min...

It doesn't matter whose "fault" it is. It needs to be fixed.

Yeah you clearly do not understand the issue because you are fortunate enough not to have been effected by the issue. I have friends with your attitude then one day they had to wait and wait, their tune changed quickly

No it does not matter who is at fault that is not the point. The point is do you call your Electric company when your car does not start? Do you call the hospital when your house is on fire? Of course you do not. Well this is not any different. Complaints here are made here. Not only does WC not even see them but Steam can easily ignore them as they have for over 10yrs. Check the original Ark forum see the same complaints since 2015. Check the game Icarus made by Rocketwertz you will see the same complaints.

I've had a similar issue. My ark needs updating but when I try with about 50GB space in storage it says it needs 111 GB. It doesn't let me update until I have cleared about 80 GB and then updates. THE UPDATE DOESN'T USE THAT STORAGE. It keeps the storage basically the same after the update, other than using a little bit of storage like a reasonable update. The main issue is this happens with even the most minor of updates for a little while now, and I have to uninstall and reinstall a couple of my games. The actually Ark game itself doesn't even use up around the 100 GB it wants for just an update, it only takes a few GBs. My computer has around 475 GB total, but a lot of that is used, as I obviously have other games and files. I've had to strip down my files a bunch but still can't afford the update without uninstalling one or two of my games, and I only have a couple of games installed. Even less since this issue began. I can't stop the update happening, nor have I found a way around this issue. To the people saying its a file check, it is clearly stated as an update, has an installing process and even so, I don't wish to basically waste 100GB of my storage, by not using it, and a couple of my already few games every time it needs to update, nor should I need to. This issue has only happened with ark for me, not other steam games, but the large file size of the game may be making it more obvious, and other games may have enough room in my around 50GB I leave spare. This issue doesn't use up the storage it says it needs so I may just not notice the large storage size needed for other games updates, as I click install and my storage isn't massively drained. MAYBE. I'm only guessing. At this point I am considering just not updating the game until it is fixed so I don't have to continuously uninstall and slowly reinstall my games.
