scorched earth heat
With 40 fortitude and desert clothing I was still taking heat damage during heatwaves and it was 74C, and on the opposite when it's -5C I still take cold damage.

This seems a bit extreme? I don't really wanna play and constantly die of heat or cold.

I love the challenge. I've done what the game tells me, get under ground. I found ruins, near the oasis that kind of in the center of all the Obs, that gives you protection from the wind and heat. Location Lat. 30 - Long. 55. And, I feel ya, I have 30 fortitude and desert armor.

First time in Scorched Earth? What you describe seems very normal to me. SE is supposed to be difficult as it was in base ASE. Always carry a tent, goggles, and brews to make it through sandstorms and heatwaves.

Heatwaves are VERY hard to resist even with high quality gear. In ASE I've hid in shadows to survive them before so I assume it's still possible to do that. But without ascendent ghillie you won't survive a heatwave out in the open. That's just how it's supposed to be. Normal desert clothing will protect you from the normal heat on the map but not heatwaves. Try searching caves and deep sea beacons out in the dunes when/if you're high enough level to open them for high quality ghillie. Hope that helps.

Also if you aren't yet aware there are areas on the map which are protected from extreme temperature. Such as near an obelisk and some areas near the mostly dry river that runs through the middle of the map.

52 fortitude, full slightly elevated desert cloth (about48ish) special recipe made with 50meat and 30 of each berry, with fur gauntlet or for if it gets cols. a tent in inv to sling down when real severe. 100 cactus to satisfy water food needs. i can now stay out in most locations
Fortitude 72, im overheating in 19"c with desert shirt on, no joke:(

Any tips on what to do when you're just starting out? I feel overwhelmed by the environment. I am a desert bob trying to get his first box together but the heat is killing lol.

Probably but I've read that in ASE the max heatwave temp is 50C, in ASA it seems to be 74C (or more) from what I've seen.

yeah cuz nothing says fun like dying over and over and over and .... over.. but hey this game was a meme when it first came out so all good

My fortitude is 248.
I made sure I leveled it up good when still on The Island. Because I was aware Scorched Earth was coming and I remembered it well from ASE.
If you are starting a new character, you just don't want to be out in a heatwave. Period.
Travel at night, stay close to home in the day and learn where places exist that you can take shelter from the heat while you are building something from adobe.
Consider the points you are spending in other stats and compare to what you think you should spend in fortitude. You likely need far more points in fortitude than you think.
Scorched Earth is all about "Scorched" Earth. It is supposed to be very harsh.

Good luck. =)

i like the extreme weather in this game. it makes me feel like the "survival" in survival ascended means something. i wish the storms did more to my player like drain stam or damage armour

The sand storms do drain you and your dino's stam. Also you can't sprint, damage or throw out any dinos during them.

First tip, top priority is crafting a tent. Second, crafting desert armor. Third, find a location close to water where it protects you from the extreme weather. The coords I gave you in my first post does just that...without having to be in a cave.

And you're here why? Have fun playing easy, boring games like Palworld.
