Fasolasuchus getting homesick and ruining my tames as a result

for some reason whenever I try to tame a fasolasuchus, the hard part isn't so much the steering or the blowing it up, but the fact that if I exhaust an area of rocks and get knocked off trying to take him somewhere with more, the moment he loses aggro on me, he just walks straight back????? ♥♥♥♥ highkey pisses me off because it essentially soft locks me from getting over 50% torpor as I don't have enough rocks around to knock it out, get kicked off before I can reach anywhere with more rocks, and the stupid lizard refuses to bury itself again until its undone all of my progress. I saw a youtube vid showing a pretty solid chain of salt deposits along the southern dunes, but the 150 I've gotten to 1/3 torpor is all the way on the east side and actively heading further north as I type this out.

Is this a weird bug? are mods to blame? should I just throw in the towel and spawn one in a more favorable area?
