Paid mods?
So this is new (Or at least it is to me?)..... is this "the new black" for gaming? That all modded games, is now gonna charge for mods that improve the game? Game developers making a "base" game, and get the gamers to buy it, and then make money of modders?

Svartaltheim has, atm, almost 50k downloads (unique or not), at 10 dollars. Thats 500.000 dollars currently (plus minus non unique downloads)... :-O

Is the future base games, thats is "missing a lot", improved by paid mods, beside paid dlc´s, skins and so on?.....

What is your take on this? Are you willingly to pay for "premium" mods for a game you already paid for? or is it a no go?

Just try to maintain servers for free about 8 years or even try to make simple mod. Only after that You can understand why it so

what does maintaining servers have anything to do with this? :) You can charge ppl for using your maitained server i guess? Havent that always been the case?

And im not saying modders dont deserve to be able the charge money for their mods, and getting paid for their work. Im just questioning ppls opinion on this?

I dont have a problem paying for mods, I find interesting, that have been implemented for quality. As you said people should be paid for their work especially when so many people are enjoying the content. Apparently people thought that mod was worth it, 50 thousand times.
I'll never pay for a premium mod. Stupid idea and gates servers/experiences away from players while waving it in their faces in the mod browser. I see this as a soulless way to drop sponsored mods so the consumers can pay for what WildCard doesn't want to but with more, smaller mods in the fray. The only type of content i'd be okay with existing is a map mod that adds (lots of) mechanics, creatures, tools, items, engrams etc etc similar to Ark's DLC.

Also, the premium mods were confirmed for non-unique downloads, so if something has 20k downloads, the mod wasn't bought 20,000 times. You can check on the Gaia potions curseforge comment section (the flaming is quite funny) for validation from the mod creator on that.

I was really hoping paid mods would have stayed with Bethesda... I hope this trash monetization scheme doesn't spread to more games like Minecraft or 7DTD.

I'd be happy to pay for them to use on my server, not such a fan of that forcing the people playing there to do the same though...

Anyone know what percentage goes to the mod creator?

GobboKirk, thanks for the info.

It seems like a crazy business model in the long term and I don't understand how much money people are spending in this game. Buying ASE and DLCs over years, then buying a s*****r version again for ASA was already a lot.

If they're expecting players to re-buy their content again and their new DLCs and the paid mods, how much are they really planning for us to spend on this decade old game over time?

Scorched was free so not sure what DLC you are buying again.

yea its utter bull chit.
steam workshop exists and works how things should
people make mods because they like to or want to
and they give them to people to enjoy

If you cant make and sell a game and make money from it, you've failed
plain and simple, no one can defend this trash

The main reason I enjoy playing Ark is due to the mods that gives depth and quality of life, to the gameplay experience. Mods like S+, Primal Fear, Ark Eternal, Omega, Dino Storage, and others significantly improve the game.

When combined, they make Ark more enjoyable and engaging. However, if modders start charging for their creations, it could drastically change the modding environment. Many servers utilize numerous mods, sometimes over 20, and if each modder decides to profit from their work, it could become costly for players.

Charging for mods can have some downsides for both players and the game. It might make it harder for players to access all the mods they want, potentially splitting the community and impacting the overall experience. It could also deter teamwork among modders and limit creativity. Plus, there's the risk of introducing quality and compatibility issues that could detract from the enjoyment of the game.

While I understand the desire for modders to receive compensation for their efforts, this approach may not be the best solution. Not for players and not for ark in long term.

And not to mention if there is one mod a player dislike, they might just hop to another server and so on…

Everything about it just feels off in my opinion.

Are free mods not allowed?

Do the ARK devs get a cut of the mods?

The previous donation system seemed to work fine. Devs should either keep it the way it was, hired a mod team or just add stuff to the games that everyone looks for in mods.

I never thought I would see a time where people would be pirating mods. smh
