Is ASA good now?
I've been holding out on playing this because it's literally just a fresh coat of paint on a game I already own (which I Stupidly paid 40 bucks for). I really want to think that they actually used the money from this and invested it back into the game; Also what's this BS abt PAID mods???

No, it's become more unstable than ever. Every update they do causes the game to just crash or freeze up. Seems random at that, which is worse because I can't pin down the issue. It's not my computer, I have well above the required hardware, as well as a friend who has even higher grade than I do. The game is just not well optimized.

Nah, it's gonna be a bit before it's finished. I'd give it 2-3 years.

As far as the indie DLC goes, I like it a lot better than other games' premium content delivery models. Like, take Conan Exiles for example. Mods are free but only for PC. So if console players want extra content, they gotta buy Funcom's in-game currency, which is sold only in packs. You don't get to just buy what you want for the price listed. For example, their Aquilonian Elevators are priced at 1270 "Crom Coins" (yes, it's a stupid name) but the $9.99 coin pack only gets you 1200 coins. So that's how they get you.

With the indie DLC on Ark, you're paying only the sticker price, in normal-ass currency, the way God and commerce intended. Plus, some of that money goes directly to the people developing the mod, and finally, a lot of the indie DLC makers have free options available.

It's not that big of a deal to us on PC because we're used to mods from independent developers for free. That's not really a good deal for them or us, which is why so many of the old mods depreciated so quickly. Maintaining a lot of that stuff is WORK. This just gets more money going to where it should.
Not really. The Bob's DLC is always in your face when browsing engrams, which is fantastic. Game still has lots of performance issues and crashes. Tons of bugs still which is w/e; game gets updates quite often. Paid mods.... YIKERS, imagine paying $40 then spending another $5-$10 for mods that were free on ASE... If you run a server, that's a pricetag of that much multiplied by the players on your server as everyone also needs to purchase them. Paid mods are just a replacement for the mod sponsor program and for WC/SG to make more money.

Probably wait for Extinction for end game content tbh; which is probably December at this point if all goes well (it will be April next year with delays).

If you have a 40 series GPU, frame gen helps a lot; just make sure to update your video card drivers as often as possible.

I'm pretty much judging the effort based on what Extinction brings. There's a lot of opportunity there in particular to clean up some sloppy work. I expect to see great effort put into the polish-up for what we've had to give up so far as players.

Yeah, me too honestly. Seeing the concept art of Extinction vs what we got is night and day. I really hope they go for an complete atmospheric overhaul and fix a lot of the general issues with that DLC.

Only time will tell, hopefully we'll see Ext sooner than mid 2025 though...
