yes, actually ark is like 95% crossplay (only "pvp windows10" is dead right now)

you can play cross play on a privet server but you will have to pay for the server and thats even more expensive then the game. Cross play is otherwise only supported on their officiall servers

You can Crossplay on your own Dedicated server either with a spare PC or on your own PC if it can handle it.
and like you said, last resort would be to rent.

Not really incorrect though is it, I mean not everyone has or knows how to dedicate a server thus also potentially using RAM etc etc... plus $25 for a server is expensive asf

that and you have to assume people don't have an ultra 4k gaming system

It's not expensive if you rent a vps to host multiple servers though. It only works out expensive if you use Nitrado "boycott Nitrado" ;p
