How do you travel map safely?

With speed leveling disabled, early game without mounts, parachutes, grappling hook and so on, how do you do a metal run without being hunted down by beach bob-eaters (aka Allos)?

i make a raft and go up the west coast just as the snow starts, lots of birdies to tame and then fly to the metal

there is good metal spots on herbivore island in the lower right corner of the map.

In case you didn't know (maybe?), very early game you can harvest the "normal" rocks in and near the sea/rivers with a stone pickaxe and recover, from time to time some metal, in safe places from the south... also as said just up, level 16--> wooden raft---> Herb Island, no threat at all on this place and there are some metal rocks...

And you said "without mounts" but i wanted to add that, nevertheless, farther in levels (36), this is a super safe place to tame an Anky which can recover metal in harvesting "normal" rocks.

I ended up taming a Ptera, then I built a trap in the mountains and tamed the pigeon-like bird. I'm doing now the note run to unlock the saddle.

Early game I almost always make a raft and goto herbi island. With ASA its even easier, Kills Anky parents take the baby and raise it then let them do the work.
I stock up around 2500 while clear cutting the woods and bushes.
From there I head up along the east shoreline until I reach snow or hidden lake. Thats where I prefer to settle for long term.

However you can also park the raft upriver in the middle by the metal hill and just run it down to your raft but you'll need to dodge raptors often.

Another place is the South western lake just north of Red obli. It has metal and Obsidian in the water. Sometimes raptors but pretty quiet.

Tame a bobr and tranq said allo from the sea, when it starts running away u dismount and run after it like a caveman shooting tranqs(dont let it go k.o. in the water as it will drown in its sleep), now u are the alfa predator :)

Without Speed Leveling The Raft Is OK But Slow And Can Be Dangerous. A Heavy Load Argent Works Good, That's What I Use Without Speed Level ON Servers.

When I Tame Argent's I Make One For Travel Only On The Nitrado Server I've Rented

I Set The Speed Option Checked ON In The Server Settings Which Gives Me The Option To Add Points To Flight Speed And Pump All The Points Into It I Can.

Health 2,000..Stamina 2400 Speed 145 So I've Added 45 Speed Level Points To The Argent.

Can't Carry Much But Just Take My Tank/Fighter Argent When I Need To.

My Travel Time Is Reduced Drastically For General Travel But Loose Flying Followers Because They Can't Keep Up.

I Always First Raft To Herbi Island ASAP And Tame PT Then Set Up Shop, Beavers And Pearls Not Far. For Crystal & Obsidian I Use The Heavy Load Flyers.

Metal Runs ? Herbi Island Has About 7 or 8 Metal Node Plus There's A Regular Loot Drop That Comes Regularly.

Wake on easy location... Get pick, Axe, cloth. Kill dodos, kill more dodos, make 3 clubs, 6 bolas, tame every dilo you come across and pump melee on all of them. When i start i have around 10 dilos and they can even take on a rex if they have leveled up. Even better if you tame a trike or a para and you sit on the back directing the pack.

Eventually i replace the dilo pack with a dimorph pack. harvesting the smooth rocks along the shorelines and river banks can get you a decent amount of metal to get you off to a very good start.

Wake up on one of the easy locations, level your self up by making simple tools, thatch hut, etc. I highly recommend taming a trike. This guy will be your muscle. Until then, tame a bunch of dilos, I'd recommend at least three or four. Make a raft and take your dinos with you, and follow the rivers inland. There's usually a ton of metal on the sides.
