Hit it with a dart or pistol round, that drops them out of the tree.

They don't hit that hard, depending on your gear and stats, you could always just be the trap and you could tranq it while it grabs you.

Otherwise I've seen more on the ground chasing elk than I've seen in the trees.
Rexes, allos, sloths, paracers, diplodocus and etc they won't jump on. Better to bring those in the redwoods than an argie.

Which would make megatherium the best choice to use because they avoid aggro and you can shoot while riding them

The dino you are riding on is irrelevant to the Thyla, it aims for the player. I have been dragged off a Wyvern by one before...

I've walked right past them on my rex and they never once tried.

I think aggro for them, kapros, and microraptors got changed for ASA. It used to be height-based but I've seen all 3 above me on a rex or allo and they've never attacked.

It hit hard for me. It was level 135 (I only try to capture high level dinos) first time I got hit I have no idea what going on why I fell from my bird. Stun me for a few second its attack was fast then my chitin gear start to break and I died no dinos around to help and can't run away. Second times I took my theri with me to recover my gear it attacked me again and I died before my theri kill it. I have no Rex or allo or diplo yet.
I guess this is what happen when a newbie only try to capture a high level dinos. Damn I don't know about your guys but this game scared the hell out of me many times.
Thank everyone for your suggestion.

Might wanna build up more. That early in the game, thylas aren't really useful because you won't find many opportunities to climb with them.
