How do wild babies work regarding levels ?
Hi,

Why do some wild babies get bonus levels when claimed, and others not ? What is the rule ? I've been reading a lot of different theories, but are there established facts now ?

My dedicated server is totally vanilla (no mods at all, not even the official winterwonderland one) :

  • Two days ago, I tamed a Male Brontosaurus level 145. When it was tamed (coming out at 217), I claimed its Male Juvenile baby, that came out at 145.

  • Yesterday, a player tamed a Female Rex 150, coming out at 224. He claimed its Female Baby, that came out at 225. (Yes, 225, not 224.)

So what is the rule ? I can't figure it out.

Growing ? What are you talking about ? My question is about wild babies in the wilderness that you can claim after you tame or kill their wild parents. The bonus levels, if any (and that's the topic), are gained instantly when claiming.

Do you have a regular dinowipe on your server?

What i've seen so far is that this occures when a server or SP session is shut down and then restarted. Every wild baby that existed before will get bonus levels when claimed and every wild baby that spawned while the sever/session is running won't.

Wow ! That's a very interesting theory, thank you ! I posted the same question on Reddit and on the official forum, and you're the first one with this explanation. Very interesting.

Yes, I wipe the wild dino population every Friday on my dedicated server. Also, I stop and restart it once every day.

So according to your theory, that would mean that the baby Rex was already present before the daily restart, while the Juvenile Bronto would have spawned after the daily restart. Do I understand your explanation correctly ?

In any case, I can make tests. Thank you !

When A:SA released, my wife and i had different results claiming wild babies, so i tried to look up info about it and found one person on youtube that had done the research.

Since then i included a forcewipe on server start in my launch commands.
