They merged a few QOL mods. Made building stuff a bit less annoying. Some taming / breeding improvements too. In theory they upgraded the AI, but I'm not really seeing it.
One day they might get rid of all the crashy bugs.
And theoretically the new engine should, eventually, lead to performance improvements.
Worth buying if you already have a 4080 like me and regularly have to resist the urge to burn piles of money.
It's the future, but it's ahead of it's time. Maybe wait a few months if you want to play a game instead of strolling around the map in god mode.
Damn perfect summary ^
I personally am all about hyper realistic or ultra beautiful graphics, so to me it was worth it, even though I bought Ark SE ultimate edition on sale for $50 a few years back and only played that around 250 hours.
I do get computer freeze ups with this one from time to time, but I manually save often now, so i'm not losing progress and things.
I only play single player until the unlikely event where my real life friends get the game
As well there's a rocky barrier between shallow water and deep water in most parts that forms a sort of tidal pool, so you'll rarely see anything from the ocean bigger than a manta swimming close to shore.
Picking up interconnected pieces picks up all the pieces instead of breaking them
you'll also not accidentally pick up/break multiple pieces on accident do to snap points being way better too. (if you're a big builder on ACE and come to ASA you'll notice a huge difference in snap points)
stuff like a wall can become a window wall, door wall, etc. minimizing on build parts you actually have to craft.
the map is an actual map now and not a map you hold up, much easier to use and interact with.
you can now track dinos through way points. when you knock a Dino and begin feeding it also places a marker on it. if you mouse over the marker it shows you torpor, tame %, and taming efficiency no matter where you are in the map.
No more pipes and cables, they are wireless now.. basically, if you put a water tap down it will provide water to everything in a radius instead of connecting pipes (same goes for electricity)
certain creatures also pick stuff up by themselves, dung beetles will pick up all poop around them. makes for an easy soap and oil farm
Dino AI is improved.. but the ♥♥♥♥ servers break the AI so not much to say there on that one

The above I don't think was possible (or maybe just not practical) without the new UE5 game engine that is now used. This could be one of the main reasons for moving to UE5. With this, for the first time, consoles can now play with mods.
This I think is the main reason to play ASA instead of ASE. You can play with all your friends, whether on console or PC.
To really get the most out of this, I recommend playing on an unofficial server, since that is where you can play with mods installed.
Ya, I agree, but never understood why anyone would play the official servers anyway. I tried them for over 6 months over 5 years ago. I've never gone back. Besides being laggy, they are just plain toxic. There are much better ways to play ARK than on the official servers.
They keep adding more official servers, but they will be over crowded and laggy until they optimize the game and get enough servers such that there are not too many players on each.
But that ship has long since sailed and the playerbase would lose its ♥♥♥♥ if they tried that now.
