How do you get a Hesperornis to lay a golden egg?

Everything I've read says to have it kill and eat 5 fish, then it will head to land and lay an egg. I keep having my female (I checked before anyone suggests this) kill and eat fish, but nothing. When she doesn't head to land by herself, I have her follow me to shore. Is anyone able to help me find out how to get these golden eggs?

it is a rare-ish chance on egg lay.
i tend to short cut and just tame the first 2 Yuty's i find and breed them for the Kibble Eggs.

To clarify, here are 2 important points I should have included in my original post:
1) I can't get the Hesperornis to lay ANY eggs, regular or golden.
2) I need the golden eggs to have on hand for Rhynio cravings, not for kibble.

So again, does anyone know what I may be doing wrong that is causing me to not get this dang duck to lay ANY eggs?
