Single Player, FPS Drops
Is anyone else experiencing FPS drops at random times?

My 99% FPS will drop as low as 6/7 fps when just walking along and nothing particularly exciting happening. This happens on PC's running an RTX 3060 and an RTX 3080 whether I am running the game on all settings set as Low, Medium, High etc.. I also switched off fluid and foliage interaction, volumetric cloud and fog, along with grass pretty much everything you could think of and it still persists. Its frustration to play like this. I have both Nvidia and Steam overlay switched off too.

I am hoping someone has had this issue and discovered a fix they would be willing to share or a way to minimize it?

For me it seems backwards but i set the setting "Advanced Graphics" to epic, and i got a huge performance increase and stability. I am using an AMD GPU, but you could try messing around with this specific setting. I had it on medium and crashed every 15 or so minutes, set it to epic and i played over 5 hours straight.

I suspect the lighting is causing a lot of issues. My game drops to <10fps every morning and evening, as the sun rises or sets. And omni-directional lamp posts cause me a lot of lag when I have them all on.

But doing anyting that forces the game to rething the graphic fixes it, ie logging out and back in, or dropping a graphic setting and setting it back to what it was and suddenly its back to normal with no visual difference.

Starting to think memory leak or catch issue

Thanks for that, I tried that and oddly did also increase in FPS but still getting the dips. It's very frustrating it's not more polished but what did we expect 😅

I did notice this also, but the drops do resume after a very short period. Some of the resolution scaling features seem to cause more issues when switched on! Hoping there's a performance patch soon that fixes some of these issues.

That's a good mention, when I'm next on I'll try that! I have a few at my main base and that's where I see a lot of the issues when barely moving around!

If I start to walk into a cave... instant game (and whole computer) freeze. Have to hold power button to shut it down.

Are you near caves?

Try following:
In game open console and type: STAT FPS
It shows the real fps in game on right side.

Then press ESC and enter SETTINGS and VIDEO.
Watch your FPS to the right...
Click on one option (no matter which) and click same setting you set there. This is only to activate the SAVE button. Because in this moment you click SAVE, the FPS should raise then to normal. Then play, fps should stay then.
If this works, you need to repeat this all time you start ASA new.
Ask the devs why this behavior is this way. I reported this weeks ago at wildcard support.

No fix yet unfortunately. I also have since bought a ROG Ally and I am having the same issue on that, so it cant be hardware related. I have stopped playing for the time being in the hopes that there is some optimization that helps with this issue as its borderline game breaking for me.

I did notice that this does happen but it doesnt seem to stop the drops in fps. it definitely does like "reset" something in the game that helps but I havent been able to resolve the sudden frame drops.

Did you include the parameter
-useallavailablecores
in your launch options for the game in Steam?
May be this can help.
Additional - if you ask Google for "Ark Ascended fps drops" you earn a lot of results with information what to do...
