If it don't have room it takes more time to do everything and has way high re-write frequency which effect the lifespan of you hdd/SSD
I only have a 500GB drive and I want to keep some other games.
For a 500gb Drive that would be 75gb needs to be always free to work properly.
at least 10% of the total storage space, as general rule
at least 50 gb on C drive, as general rule for your system drive (30 on mac or ubuntu)
In case you have steam and your games on different storages you still need 10% of the gaming storage space free on the steam drive. As the installation and update files are temporary files in steam folder.
the update process at steam is optimized to download as few as possible mb, but it's not optimized to use as few as possible space during any update process. e.g. A game needs 50gb download but 100 fully installed. You probably need 150 gb during installation and update processes, even if its just updating 5mb.
it needs to unpack and replace, many games do it like that. You will need to upgrade.
so if it's 118 gigs you need 118gigs TIMES 2
to be able to update
it's due to the way unreal engine games are created/packaged
do to steam folder/downloads and check it each update you will see
that download folder swells to the same size of the actual game each time
so in this place
Your Install Drive / Your Install Folder / Steam Library / Steam Apps / Downloading
erase everything and reboot your computer
then it should work!
no, it downloads a small patch and then makes a temporary file of the game. It doesnt re download the whole game everytime.
requiring 118 gigs of free space (if the game file is atm 118 gigs)
you can quote my correct words and say they are incorrect all you like "tombs"
