fixing the game with engine.ini and gameusersetting.ini secret settings!
with all the settings i have done on the 3080ti im currently sat at 107 fps dips to 80s90s only.. thats if it does dip. tried at native 4k your looking at 80-90fps and a dip to mid 65s and up. below you can see my whole inis and ill point out the absolute only settings to change. i do not recommend 4k

LOCATION:
SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ARK Survival Ascended\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\Windows

GAMEUSERSETTINGS.INI
-------------------------------------
MY CURRENT SETTINGS BELOW... GAME STILL LOOKS AMAZING. THIS PART OF CODE IS LOCATED AT THE VERY TOP FOR EVERYONE. VALUES WILL BE DIFFERENT BUT FEEL FREE TO COPY MINE.
[ScalabilityGroups]
sg.ResolutionQuality=80
sg.ViewDistanceQuality=1
sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0
sg.ShadowQuality=2
sg.GlobalIlluminationQuality=1
sg.ReflectionQuality=0
sg.PostProcessQuality=0
sg.TextureQuality=2
sg.EffectsQuality=0
sg.FoliageQuality=1
sg.ShadingQuality=0
DLSS ON.... LOW LATENCY ON.... SUPER RES AT PERFORMANCE

CODE TO LOCATE IN THIS FILE THAT ARE SECRET INSIDE GAME USER INI
----------------------------------------
YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE THESE OR EDIT INDIVIDUAL

AdvancedGraphicsQuality=0 (THIS CAN NOT BE CHANGED ANYWHERE INSIDE THE GAME ONLY HERE)
CameraShakeScale=0.000000
TrueSkyQuality=0.000000 - THIS WILL BE A DIFFERENT VALUE. SET IT TO THAT <<<
GroundClutterDensity=0.750000
bFilmGrain=False
bMotionBlur=False
bDisableHLOD=False
bUseDFAO=False
bDistanceFieldShadowing=False
bUseSSAO=False
LODScalar=1.000000
HighQualityMaterials=False
HighQualitySurfaces=False
bDisableTorporEffect=True
bLowQualityVFX=True
bHighQualityLODs=False
VSyncMode=0 (THIS ALSO IS NOT VISIBLE IN GAME!)
bDisableMenuTransitions=True
bUseDistanceFieldAmbientOcclusion=False

THE SETTING ABOVE CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR GAME USER INI FILE. THE VALUES ARE SET TO EXACT FOR A HUGE FPS BOOST. BUT WE ARE NOT DONE HERE. SAVE THE FILE AND GO LOCATE A SETTING CALLED ENGINE.INI. INSIDE THERE YOU WILL NEED TO COPY AND PASTE THIS LINE. AS THIS WILL NOT BE THERE FOR YOU

[SystemSettings]
r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=0
r.Lumen.Reflections.Allow=0 <<<<<---- THE FPS KILLER CULPRIT
r.Nanite.MaxPixelsPerEdge=2
r.ContactShadows=1
r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=0
r.Water.SingleLayer.Reflection=1
r.MaterialQualityLevel=0

PASTE THAT AT THE VERY TOP OF ENGINE. INI AND MAKE SURE THERE IS A GAP BETWEEN THIS CODE AND THE CODE THAT WAS ALREADY THERE.. SO EXAMPLE:

[SystemSettings]
r.DynamicGlobalIlluminationMethod=0
r.Lumen.Reflections.Allow=0
r.Nanite.MaxPixelsPerEdge=2
r.ContactShadows=1
r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=0
r.Water.SingleLayer.Reflection=1
r.MaterialQualityLevel=0
THE GAP BETWEEN CODE....
FHDFGGBHFTHRGTHRSGTHTHRHTH <<< THAT BEEN THE OTHER PART OF CODE IN THE FILE..
------------------------------------------
THE LUMEN IS THE CULPRIT TO FPS. REMOVING LUMEN GIVES A HUGE BOOST TO FPS. YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE WHEN ALL THE SETTINGS PROVIDED ARE IN. I DO RECOMMEND USING r.VolumetricCloud 0 STILL IN THE CONSOLE.. THIS ALSO DEPENDS ON SYSTEM SPECS. THIS IS 107FPS ON 3080TI ONCE THIS IS ALL IN YOUR FILES ITS A MATTER OF MESSING WITH SOME SETTINGS TO FIT YOU.. I HOPE THIS ALL HELPS. THE FILE PATH IS DEPENDENT ON WHERE YOU INSTALLED THE GAME. BUT BOTH INI ARE LOCATED IN THE SAME DIRECTORY. ENJOY YOUR FPS.

I can't believe I'm the first to comment here, but thanks for this. I didn't use every tweak (I left render scale at 100 for example) but everything else was enough to turn the game buttery smooth.

been playing the game at 15 fps for months. just the engine.ini part of this was enough to triple my fps. Can't thank you enough for this.

I added the Engine.ini settings exactly as TheChitShow described (including the gap) and saved it, verifying upon reopening that the save is exactly as intended. Played the game and didn't notice an FPS bump, so exited and rechecked the file... only to find that it had reverted to the default Engine.ini without the setting edits. Repeated several times, same story.

Anyone know how to prevent the game from overwriting those Engine.ini settings?

this is a brilliant post. and kudos to you for taking time out of your day to provide everyone that doesn't have this kind of knowledge to do on their own. THAT ALL BEING SAID.... its truly sad and pathetic that such strenuous actions need to be taken on the consumers part to make this game function at a decent capacity.

Do you know which specific settings turns underwater and caves to black/grey textures. I'm looking to just revert that single setting.

Am I the only person this didn't really help? Now my game just looks awful and runs worse.

Is there a way to use t.maxfps=60 in either game.ini or engine.ini? I have a private server, and typically get about 290fps. On rafts I stutter walk real bad, the rafts don't go forward, they move at angles mostly, it's barely playable to move on rafts. Limiting my fps to 60 using console commant t.maxfps=60 and everything works great on rafts again.

I've added tmaxfps=60 and t.maxfps=60 to the gameusersettings.ini config file, didn't cap it on the server. Looking for the engine.ini, I found one in: ShooterGame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/Engine.ini but adding either tmaxfps=60 or t.maxfps=60 doesn't cap the server fps either.

Is this doable via server, or do I need to enter it in the console every time? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
