What happened to Megalosaurus?
I have several questions regarding the Megalosaurus.

1. I read in several articles that it is now way, WAY more difficult and rare to even find one, since they're now just in caves, at least that's what I've read and so far I didn't found one at the vulcano even though I was looking for 20ish hours for one but on the other hand I also didn't find one in the caves. So my question is: Does the Megalosaurus really just spawns in caves now and why?

2. A followup question: How? The new caves are so packed and full of rocks, stones, rivers, kristalls, enemies etc. How does it fit in there/out there. I mean even my character gets stuck from time to time. The new more packed design is great, at least in terms of decoration, but it makes it even harder for Megalosaurus to spawn there, which is quite annoying, especially since they seemingly removed the mountain spawns.

3. Why didn't they at least nerfed the daytime debuff, so you can... USE THE MEGALO AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT DURING THE DAY? They make it harder to obtain, a pain in the ass to tame in a cave and didn't buff it like anyhow, which is in terms of stats okay for me. They could even nerf him a little bit, if I would be able to use it in daylight like the Troodon but with decreased stamina and speed. The debuff was unfair at implementation and now it's even less fair.

4. Has anybody seen a Megalosaurus without cheats? Like I know there aren't much who like Megalos because of the limited use since the debuff but maybe someone at least saw one because I'm looking for almost 30 hours and found 0 while I found 3 quetz, 1 titanosaurus 1 Charadonto, 3 gigas and 2 rhynioghnata.

Thanks for your attention and have a great day.

Mate my whole cave is packed, there are in some occasions 30 enemies in one group, so that's not the problem. I already tried recreating the lobby, but there are still now megalos in the cave.

Megalosaurus has always been a cave only spawn on the island.

No he could spawn on the right side of the vulcano. It's spawn location are even stated in the official wiki and the side of the vulcano is even marked as "common".

Because that's were the caves that it spawns in are located. Outside of a rare glitch and without making changes to the ini files, Megalosaurus has only ever spawned in caves on the island.

That's the tek cave. You cannot tame them in the tek cave.

I looked it up you meant the Tek cave and now I see that it is true what you're saying sorry, I forgot that they were just obtainable in caves on the Island, it's a long time since I played the Island in SE, I played Lost Island which was way better at least regarding megalospawns

Okay true it's marked as anobtainable, so this is true, the marking is just a bit off since every other cave spawn is just black.

Always look at the creatures page in the wiki. Not the spawn map.

Can you provide a picture or a link to whatever map you are looking at? I just opened the Megalosaurus page on the wiki to see if there were changes. There aren't. It's all cave spawns. It's been that way for years.
Sorry I already edited the comment and said you are right.

https://ark.fandom.com/wiki/Megalosaurus

That was the fandom I looked at and here the spot is marked as unobtainable, common, overworld, which is referring to the Tek-Cave, so I'm sorry, I didn't played The Island for a long time and guessed they would change the spawns like they did on Lost Island etc.

Wait i might been mistaken. On the spawn map, the far right of Volcano is the central cave which is said to have megalos; i've never seen them in that cave.

On the volcano itself is the tek cave.

In any case, ima answer your questions:

1.) they were always SUPER rare and i never bothered with them as Ab has the Aberrant variants. Last full playthrough i didnt run into a single megalo.

2.) In the caves, they are curled up during the day and walk around at night. some caves are much bigger than others, so they can fit in more spots.

3.) This is the biggest megalo complaint; useless. Night is now longer an ASA so they MIGHT be viable? Kraken's Better Dinos had better megalos which were actually useful, i hope to see it on ASA.

4.) I've seen 2 on the island on previous runs and a bunch on one of the Rag caves. On Ab, they're SUPER common in the blue zone and really "fun" to tame.

Yeah I know that they're more common on other maps, sadly ASA just has The Island at the moment otherwise I would play on Lost Island or at least Aberration. They weren't actually that rare on other maps if you know where you have to look for them, the Megalosaurus is even though he is a bit useless my favourite dino so I always searched for them and on some maps they were very common actually, on extinction for example.

I am familiar with the sleeping mechanic, I already mentioned the mechanic in the thread and I'm searching the caves carefully but at least in my save there are none in the caves at least the times I checked.

I think Wildcard could have implemented more asked for features, they changed some things that are great but things that the community wanted to are not in the game which is sad actually...

Are the nights longer? I thought it just felt that way because you can actually see at night now.

You might be right. I think i usually set nights to be faster on the Island on ASE.

My bad... :peeperfish:

Same here. It was genuinely surprising to me how bright it was the first time the sun went down in ASA.
