Game reinstalling after update?
Saw there was an update, took like 3 minutes, I looked away and when I looked back it is now a 6 hour, 74.9gb update. What gives?

First it downloads the patch, some hundred MB's, then patches the entire game around 80GB. That's how Steam is updating/patching.

That was the case, not this time, im in the same situation where it IS downloading the WHOLE game again. And for many others.

last night after work i had some issues. It looped 3 times.
DL update(321mb)
verified(takes 10-15min
then it would fail and loop
I just ended up reinstalling completely.
Played till the birds chirped and now its doing it again.

Well, I never had this issue, latest patch downloaded around 300MB "If I remember correct" , patched the game, exactly as it used to.
Unsure what it needs to do but the disk runs at 1GBps for a while after patching. Been like this sometime after launch. Wasn't like that for the first few patches.

m.2 NVME ftw, only takes a little over a minute.

Depending on hardware and available space in the install directory for ASA, your patch times will vary.

also, If something goes wrong with the patch, then the verification phase can fail. If it indeed does fail to verify, then Steam will download and install the ENTIRE game again. If it fails again, Steam will either try again, or wait for user acknowledgement. I'm not 100% sure how many fail attempts it allows, as I've only seen it happen once.

NVME is not a disk, just wanting to point that out to avoid confusing another person that would read this.

Lol yeah, Steam refers to the usage as "Disk Usage". I know the difference and it is NOT relevant to the discussion.

It is relevant as the very nature of the topic is a technical question and the relevant information is thereby technical. If you are going to contribute to the discussion, then keep the technical details accurate.
lol i thought it was just me...was kinda excited to play only to have another 80gb patch

I'm sitting here downloading the 74 GB patch thinking this better be another map.. WTF?
This also happened to me twice and a friend once so far. It downloads 300mb patch, then patches 75gb game, then suddenly starts to redownload and install 75gb game for no reason. In both cases the game was running fine, no settings changed, and also using the primary SSD as install directory. Game files are already downloaded and patched, but there does not seem to be any way to force steam to reacquire the preexisting install. This is ridiculous. I wonder if this is some kind of intentional steam metrics fraud.

Also having this issue. I will note that this happened to me with ASE as well, on every platform I played it on. PC, PS4, and XB...I am willing to bet it has something to do with wildcard being lazy. Re-installing the game everytime there's a patch is a bit much.

I also have the update but the game still crashes! Why this update?

More than 8 hours of DL right now for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and useless update
I have to download the entire game again, how is it possible to be so incompetent?
