Is "stasis" still a thing?
One of the most unfortunate parts of the original game was a limitation the made it so if you were running a dedicated server, only dinos within a certain range of the player actually moved about, etc and it was called NPCStasis or something along those lines. It really made it annoying to play solo because dinos on the other side of the map wouldn't move around and interact with the world properly.

Anyone know whether with the change to UE5 that this limitation is gone?

This is the same game.. almost nothing was changed.

Damn, was hoping with the change to UE5 we could've finally had the entire map running at the same time. I'm not sure why official servers and such don't have this limitation but I guess there must be a reason

damn, how do you even wanna manage to let the entire map do it´s thing ALL time.
LIKE WHAT?
If you now the answer, you could tell every game how to do it.
EFT can´t even handle a couple NPC´s in a small map.

I don´t even know any game, that is that big. Where npc´s move at all time and don´t go in some stasis.

and i don´t think the server is constantly running. It´s more about the people and the range in which area they interact

Why would it matter....?
Since you wont even notice.

And do you want the Server to use 1000gb ram...?

Because it leads to all sorts of issues while playing solo. I haven't played Ark in a while but from what I remember, wild quetz wouldn't spawn properly or level up, dinos don't lay eggs while you're away from base, etc.

It wouldn't be so bad if the range wasn't barely a medium-sized bases distance away.

Dinos dont lvl up anyway....
And why should they lay Eggs if you are not there??

people playing single player with mods have turned stasis off for years, it's necessary for a lot of mods. any decent computer from the last 5 years can handle it just fine in ASE, it's not like it has to render them, just simulate the data and it 100% can do it pretty easily, it's just heavy. it's the whole point of the -preventhibernation command
Black Raven Nov 14, 2023 @ 12:05am
I use the -preventhibernation steam command line, which in therory should stress the cpu, but i yet to see it get above 30% load yet

I thought most, if not all, of the limitations of the original engine would be fixed with the new engine? Why are we seeing the same bugs and limitations with the new game vs the original?
Is this an actual remake or not?

Dollie stated on discord I believe that this is between a remake and a remaster. Plenty of videos and discussions regarding things from ASE, even as far back as 2015 issue wise that are present in ASA as well as changes/differences with ASA.

As for why, well, you've 8 years of history with Snail-Wildcard to pretty much understand that.

Additionally a large amount of the development for Ascended has been from Grove Street and Instinct who are 3rd party rent-a-programmers. Instinct too has previously worked on ASE over the last 8 years too.

All in all, its less about engine limitation differences between versions and more about intentional development decisions to this point.

I mean whether your on sp or server you could always put -preventhibernation as a launch parameter to take stasis completely off, and yes it does work as i've had dino's die across the map w/o me being in the area.
Sperber Nov 14, 2023 @ 1:49am
The game client has more CPU load, because besides doing all the AI and physics for everything in the world, it also has to do manage graphics and audio rendering for it. So the game client is built to only load and process a limited amount of game data in the map at a time to spare CPU cycles for these additional tasks, whereas a dedicated server, which only does AI and physics, aims to simulate everything at once.

. alot of miss information from people that really have no idea what is being talked about.
please its better to research things before discussing them blindly. hibernation and stasis are 2 very diff things. you cannot turn stasis off ever. and you will not ever want to. you think you do but you do not. even on officials when most players have 1/2 a map out of stasis the server loads go insane.

what you all are confusing tho is hibernation . heres diff
and ill use computer OS as exactly
see those 2 other options under shutdown
hibernation
standby!
THERE You go.
one saves everything and unloads and closes it. the other just freezes everything and goes into low power mode. stasis is standby. hibernation is well. hibernation. this is all welldocumented on unreal engines site. aswell as ark wiki. and its not up for debate they are factually 2 diff things and no mods require you turn stasis off. however should note in past some mods and even vanilla mechanics have broken stasis but only for small area or things relative to them.

lastly hibernation exists on zero servers. its a single player only thing and its not about cpu load its about ram. stasis is what keeps cpu load in check. hibernation offloads things into pagefile or harddrive cache

Congratz on digging up an 15 month old thread.
