Connection Timeout

So I setup my own dedicated server on my PC I have no problem joining which makes sense as it's on my computer but my friend keeps getting connection timeout every time he try's to join is this a normal thing for people? and is there a fix

Can no one help with this? I spent 2 hours trying to figure it out I don't know if it's a me thing or a him thing

Its most likely a him thing, I'm currently having the same issue as your friend. I'm trying to join my friends on a server they got through nitrado but keep getting host timeout but my other 2 friends can join and play without issues. If he continuously tries joining you he might get lucky and get in. Verify the files of the game might help but I'm still trying to figure out a fix myself.

Possible fixes
Restarting PC
Verify files
Change graphic settings
Change client network bandwidth in settings menu
Read somewhere changing your date and time to the same zone the server set to might help
Reinstall ark

Oh also if he is connected with wifi, recommend hard wire connection to his router

This is gonna sound REALLY stupid but I was struggling with logging into my friends server for like 2 hours. If you have spotify, check to see if it isn't running in the background on your PC. I did all of the same checks as you just shy of reinstalling the game and I noticed my spotify was running in the corner of my start bar. I wasn't listening to it and closed it down and lo and behold, I'm loading in to the server. Could be something isn't playing nice between server connect and the way spotify runs in the background but it's literally the ONLY thing that was different between all of the previous troubleshooting not working including uninstalling and reinstalling battleye. Might work, might not but can't hurt right?

Hmmm that's interesting that you guys think it's him the thought did cross my mind so I did ask him to join a random unofficial server and he said he had no problems joining so this just confuses me more

I know the feeling, it seems a LOT of people are having issues trying to connect but can't due to Connection Timeouts. i sure hope that they fix the issues that are out there, such a cool game but playing by yourself can be a bit boring.

Sounds like a Port issue.

I recently started having this issue since 33.15 came out. Friend has server on nitrado also. They can both get in no problem but for whatever reason I keep getting host timeout now. Spent hours trying.. Accidentally put myself in a situation where while trying to get back in one day I drowned.... and it seems after that I was able to spawn back in at a bed no issue. So everytime I want to play I have to have a friend come murder me then I can get in for whatever reason lol. Only fix I have found so far but its been working.

The only fix I can tell you that is working for me is having my friend who is the server owner of the server i play on kill my character ingame before I log on every single time. that is the only fix I know.
